Rated 4 out of 5 by Poor check in experience I booked three rooms at the aloft hotel Minneapolis for a group of eight people this past weekend. When we arrived I went to the front desk to check in and was greeted by a recepsionist who began to check me in. I began by trying to explain that I had booked three rooms for a group of six peopel and I pulled out my confirmaiton email from SPG. Without care for the email I had as evidence of my reservation she began to inform me that I was only able to communicate with her about the reservation for the room with my name on it. As i began to explanin that I made all three room reservations and that I was encouraged by the booking agent at SPG to enter the names of other guests staying in the others rooms to make it easier at check in, she continued to commit to a defensive attitude with me, with respect to the other three rooms. The recepsionist would not work with me, which required me to ask for a manager. When i asked to speak with the manager, she said, "sure you can speak to a manager but he is going to agree with me, its the policy." This response was quite offensive. I work in the customer service industry. If a customer has a problem, staff should do everything that is within their power to help that custoer overcome their issue. Not make it a battle over who is right and wrong. Not to mention, if the problem is biger then what they are capable of resolving, they should kindly suggest that we speak with a manager, not wait for the guest to demand it. After speaking with the manager, it turns out i was right. The SPG member, making the reservation does have the power to make changes to any of the reservations he or she makes regardless of who is listed on the reservation as the person occupying the room. My complaint is not with the policy rather with the way in which your staff memaber handled her customer. Please work with this location to impove customer service thorughout the guest experience. I will add that as a token of good will, the manager that i spoke with at the hotel sent up six free drink tickets to our group to appologize for the poor level of service. July 21, 2014

Rated 4 out of 5 by No fuss, affordable property Like all Alofts, this place is no fuss. If you want to be in-and-out and aren't looking for full service (room service, event services, etc) ...and you're on a budget, this might be your place. If you also insist on being showered with Platinum love, this probably isn't your place. - Excellent service and super friendly staff willing to go the extra mile - Great location in Minneapolis. By some great restaurants and they have a shuttle that will take you within a reasonable distance. - Parking not too terribly much, but some issues with the payment machines (Hotel does not own) - Like the other Alofts, not too impressed with all the pre-packaged foods (and they're not cheap) - The bartender during our three nights was quite an unhappy individual and it showed (she was quite rude and off-putting) - Great Bliss toiletries and awesome walk-in showers - Be sure to stay on a higher floor so folks in buildings next door can't see you in your birthday suit. - The desk and chair aren't as comfortable as I'd like for hours-upon-hours of laptop work. Rated 4 out of 5 by Enjoyable, but for the noise My room was on the third floor, above a lounge area by the pool. People used the area throughout the night (Saturday only) and their talking, etc., disturbed my sleep. The last group was there at 6:00 a.m., drinking out of a bottle, dressed in formal wear. The staff said that area was open to Aloft Hotel guests 24/7. Really? What about the rest of us, trying to sleep, the number one reason for getting a hotel room? Also, I opted for the "green" route of no changed towels and sheets during my stay. I did not think that meant no one would run the vacuum, empty the trash each day, but that is what happened. Disappointing. The location is wonderful, especially the proximity to the Guthrie. The wine (Le Grand Noir - Pinot Noir 2011) at the bar was worth the price. Any place with a pool table gets extra points. It would be nice, however, if the hotel had an arrangement (as in a fixed 24 hour rate regardless of "events" in the area, etc.) with the garage across the street for Aloft patrons' parking, and had more sense about letting people talk and party outside the windows of others. Laissez-faire is a lousy policy. July 5, 2013

Rated 3 out of 5 by Shuttle service and parking The hotel in itself is very nice although there was some confusion with checking in which was resolved. Given the amount of activities on the weekend of my families stay, the shuttle service was very poor. Having only ONE van to transport visitors to their destination was not accommodating. When my family entered the van to head to our destination, we were asked to wait as the van had passengers coming. These passengers were viewed finishing their cocktails at the bar. 30 minutes later after being told by the driver he would be back in a few minutes, the van returned. Then 2 additional passengers were added to the ride and dropped off 1st. My family was late getting to our venue which was 5-7 minutes away. Another family had a similar experience and took a cab. Plus - parking was limited and having to pay at a ramp nearby was another negative factor. Finally in my families travels we stay at hotels that provide a complimentary breakfast bar. We were surprised to have to pay for a deli style food service for a higher end facility as ALoft. My recommendation for this hotel would be POSSIBLY depending on needs of stay in Minneapolis, Mn.
