Rated 2 out of 5 by PPIEW450 Very disappointed with this SPG hotel
I've stayed here twice now. My second experience was worse than my first, so I am moved to comment. I find the service at this location to be substandard for an SPG hotel. I phoned to change/clarify my needs regarding my reservation, the receptionist simply said 'theyll help you with that when you check in". There was no acknowledgement of my SPG elite status, nor my request for an apprioate room. There is no proper food available - snacks and grab and go breakfast food, no dinner options aside from pub-fare appetizers. the common areas - lounge, etc, are noisy AND loud.. AND too close together for any privacy. The room, while clean was not comfortable - the term 'bare bones' comes to mimd. I had to hunt around for a business center - then look further and ask at the desk to locate the printer where I could collect my boarding pass - very inconvenient, no confidentiality or autonomy... the desk staff, while cheerful, are not dignified nor did they dignify my reqeust, indicating that they were fully booked becasue of all the businss travellers... seeming to indficate that 'the businss travellors' needs/ reqeusts were more valid than mine.. 'the business travellors' - of which I was one!! I wont' return here...

Rated 4 out of 5 by Cowgirl2013 Great Airport Hotel
I normally try to avoid airport hotels when traveling due to the noise and general distance from everything else worthy of note. However, the Aloft hotel in Portland is different. It's proximity to the airport cannot be beat when flying out early morning or arriving late night. It's easy to find with FREE parking.
The lobby/bar area is what you expect for an Aloft hotel. Very streamlined and "young". Check in was easy and fast. My room was clean, comfortable and QUIET. The bartenders at the bar were friendly and helpful. The hotel offered live music in the bar/lobby Fri/Sat nights which was a nice touch.
What I really liked about this hotel was that it is right across the street from the Cascades Station shopping area. There is nothing worse than getting to a city and realizing you left something important at home or you need a new pair of pantyhose or a new umbrella and having to spend hours tracking down a Target. Here the Target, IKEA, Banana Republic, DSW Shoes, Best Buy are all right across the street...as well as some pretty decent restaurants.
The location makes it easy to get onto any of the major highways and if you're traveling north towards WA it's very quick and easy. The Portland traffic get's a bit nasty if you're traveling south or west...but otherwise easy access.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Niecy11 Awesome hotel!
This was our first time to Portland and our first time staying at aloft hotel. What a memorable experience! Hotel exceeded our expectation. We were greeted by a friendly, courteous and professional staff every day of our stay. The room was extremely comfortable and we were pleasantly surprised to find a microwave, refrigerator, coffee and water in our room for our personal use. There was free wi-fi, access to a computer in the lounge, free printing of documents and boarding pass. There was also entertainment in the lounge, a pool table and other table games for guest use. Oh, and there was complimentary use of the fitness center as well as an indoor heated pool. Room price was also extremely reasonable as compared to what you would have paid for a 5 star hotel. There were also numerous restaurants and a shopping outlet mall directly across the street. The light rail station was only a couple blocks away. If you're looking for a hotel at reasonable rates that offer all the amenities and services of a 5-star hotel near portland airport, the Aloft hotel at cascade station is a must stay. We will definitely return to this aloft hotel on our next business trip! The entire hotel staff was so friendly and you could sense they loved working there. Mahalo to all who made our stay most enjoyable!

Rated 3 out of 5 by SP2652 Business Center leave a lot to be desired, noisy facility
The front desk check-in, Emily, was great! She gave me a rundown on the facility. This was the only good part of the stay.
1) went to print Boarding Pass and found there was no printer. Found there was one at the front desk, odd in itself. So, printed the Boarding Pass and went to the front desk, where 5 people were checking in (only 2 staff to check them all in). Now I had just spoken to the staff (I believe her name was Crystal, but could be wrong) and she knew I was going to print, so I just stood there. Nothing, so, I waited in the long line to get my printout, that was there on the printer. All very odd. Put a printer by the business office computers!!!
2The bathroom had a quarter roll of toilet paper remaining and no additional roll in the room.
3) The bed was hard
4) I hate A/Cs where the compressor kicks off and the fan doesn't run. Eventually the A/C never came back on. Fortunately I played background sound on my iPhone.
5) there was a musician in the bar area, which is the main lobby and it was too loud that you couldn't hear yourself think. No way to relax or get any work done, so, went back to my room.
6) check-out went well with an eFolio bill sent to my E-Mail.
In conclusion, if you have business and require ready printouts, forget it.Check-in takes a long time and not enough staff to handle any volume at one time. Noisy lobby.
Next stay will be at a different hotel for sure.

Rated 5 out of 5 Consistent quality at Aloft line of hotels
I am quickly becoming a big fan of the relatively new addition to the Starwood family, Aloft Hotels. During my recent 3 month road trip, I have had the pleasure of staying in Tempe, Dallas (flagship), Jacksonville, Birmingham, and Portland.
They were all great. I appreciate the attention to detail that goes into the room design, and like knowing exactly what it will be like before getting there. I also don't have to wonder if I was upgraded or if a nicer room might have been available.
The staff are very well trained and offer great service in all areas of the hotel. The fact you aren't nickeled and dined to death with parking costs and internet fees is also refreshing. I even like the inexpensive do it yourself food selections with refrigerators and coffee makers in-room. I guess the addition of a microwave would finish it out, but you can use the one in the food area by reception. I would pick this chain over a more formal hotel if given a choice in the same location. The PDX airport location is not only for air travelers as the MAX light rail whisks you downtown in about 20 min and is outside your door. The Cascade Station area is like a true urban village and unlike any airport neighborhood I have ever seen. I am sure there will be condos and permanent residents very soon, as the infrastructure and human scale is palpable along with numerous restaurants and shopping including IKEA and Target within walking distance. Staff is top notch, service oriented and personable.

Rated 3 out of 5 by thristyandhungry very poor service in bar/restaurant
Stayed here for two nights while escaping real estate showings of our home. the room and facilities were excellent. housekeeping was friendly.
the trouble was that the service in the bar/restaurant was terrible. the first night we were not greeted for over 10 minutes and had to go looking for our own menu. the guitarist prompted us to move to a better table at which point we got better service from the waiter - but he never asked us if we wanted anything else and we had to go looking for our bill when we were ready to leave. while we were there the entertainer made comments at a female guest to the audience on the microphone that he would ask her out if she wasn't married - which was totally offensive.
the next night we had a $5 coupon for the bar as an incentive from the hotel. there are a gizzilion better restaurants in portland where we could have eaten. the waiter took our drinks but when he brought them he didn't bother to ask if we were ready to order food.
many minutes later I resorted to I making eye contact and waved at one waiter only to have him turn away and go into the kitchen. I had to go order at the bar and when the food finally arrived the order did not arrive as I requested. I couldn't remedy my order because no one bothered to ask how things were...
by the time the food arrived our drinks were low but the waiter just plopped down the food, walked away and did not ask if we wanted more to drink... not even water. about a 1/2 hour later when I finally caught the eye of the bartender and waved at the bartender he called out at me from the bar 20 feet away instead of coming over. by the time I got my second beer my food was cold. also, the pizza was terrible. cost $10 for what could be a $2 frozen pie.
I noticed that even a large party of 15+ people was left to order drinks at the bar while the staff chatted aimlessly behind the counter. before long this large party dwindled away. I even saw staff try sips of liqueur as my drink sat empty! many tables had empty drinks. It really seemed like the goal of the staff was to never leave the bar - yet this is a place that has table service.
This place could sell a lot of food/drinks if only someone would ask! In my experience this is a problem not necessary with staff but with poor management and training. It is unfortunate that the hotel is so nice, yet has such bad service that makes it feel like a two-bit place by the airport. It could be a great party spot for locals and travelers alike, if only the bar/restaurant staff acted like they wanted the guests to be there.
