Not sure what the walls are made of but the problem may have been the clientele. Had to call the desk at 3 am to get the people yelling in the surrounding rooms to shut up.

The staff at Aloft was very friendly and accomodating. The drivers of the shuttle were very informative and it was a definite plus to have their help getting around.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Scovi Dirty fridge...Guest Priority=fail
Well, during my arrival I was very shocked with the professionalism of the Front desk clerk. Who was very memorable, I believe her name was Abby? She was exceptional and made me and my wife feel welcome! However, when I went to the room, the fridge was dirty; a left over Sappinos box left behind from Gary the previous guest. It reeked of garlic...to say the least! I immediately called down to the front desk she offered for a houseman to come clean it; but my wife was taking a shower so therefore, that was out of the question---We just didn't use the fridge. The vanity was dirty, I just cleaned it myself of course! The next morning I had a business meeting and I called down and told Brian to set a wake up call for 12pm--Requested a late checkout front he previous night but just wanted to double check my secured wake up! Well Brian never called...I over slept and had to reschedule a meeting, I was totally embarrassed having to make that call! I cancelled my future arrival Feb7th-9th- If I'm going to pay almost $165 a night, these minor errors shouldn't occur. But I understand no one is perfect therefore I didn't give no one a hard time!

Rated 1 out of 5 by Willbw02 “Unacceptable - overbooked hotel and kicked out SPG Platinum
I enjoy aloft hotels, and as an SPG Platinum (5 straights years) I'm typically pleased with rooms, service & common areas. I love the aloft Asheville.
However, I could not be more disappointed by the Minneapolis aloft. I called the hotel at 6pm on the evening of my arrival to ensure that my confirmation number was accurate and my platinum number was entered correctly (a colleague had made the reservation on my behalf). I was assured that all was prepared for my arrival. I also asked about taxi service from the airport and was advised of a good limo service. The limo service cost $45, and was excellent.
When I arrived at the hotel at 11pm, I was greeted by the front desk supervisor...."so we have a problem, we don't have anymore rooms left". I assured him that he must be mistaken because I had called only a few hours ago and was confirmed on the phone!!! I confirmed that he understood and acknowledged that he was kicking a platinum out of the hotel instead of someone else. My colleagues were at the aloft and this required a change in logistics.
The supervisor apologized and told me he had a room at another (non-SPG) hotel 1mi away for me. I urged him to have the GM call me the next morning. Then the aloft used their van to take me to the other hotel During the ride I left a voicemail for the front desk manager explaining the situation and my severe displeasure. I requested a call the next morning.
I have not received a call back yet. Instead after 3 days absence, I wrote a review on Tripadvisor. The "response" was a 'computer glitch' caused the problem....REALLY?
Overall, this situation was completely unacceptable. I will never again stay at the aloft Minneapolis, and I recommend that no other Platinum SPG stay here.

aLoft is one of my favorite hotels in the Starwood family but the staff at the Minnepolis location fell flat.
1. Parking during check-in is inconvenient and un-marked
2. The breakfast options are gross and focused on greasy breakfast sandwiches. Healthy options are sparse and more in line with McDonalds. Not a very on-brand experience for aLoft in my opinion.
3. The staff stood around joking with each other while I waited to pay for breakfast. They ignored me long enough for a person in the back room to notice and come out to offer to help me. When I thanked them and mentioned that the lobby espresso machine wasn't working (error massage shown) they shrugged it off and said, "It's not broken, we just filled it with coffee beans". There was no effort to fix it or show me how.
4. Housekeeping did not clean my room during my 2 night stay - even when the Do Not Disturb sign was not on door.
5. Due to long lines during the morning of check out, I tried to use the digital kiosk in the lobby to do so. Of course it didn't work so I waited in line for the one person working to process 2 people checking and 3 people checking out all by themselves (while 2 other staff members came and left the front desk).
I like aLoft hotels, but when in Minneapolis again (which is often) I'll go back to other options in Mnpls.

Rated 5 out of 5 by jbcreative Above & beyond: Recognize this great Aloft team
there are several businesses where the leadership is not that important... hotels are not one of them.
I want to call out the general manager for his outstanding leadership & staff selection at this is Aloft hotel: the entire crew is genuinely friendly and cheery from the front desk to the housekeeping staff. above and beyond recognition must come to Michael at the front desk who went out of his way to make our stay absolutely perfect.
Starwood: if you give out bonuses for exceptional performance, if he doesn't get one, nobody should. I am not easily impressed & have written far too many letters to hotel management reading the riot act for not understanding the business of hospitality.
in the case of this recent stay, only commendations are in order. and if Michael goes unnoticed I'm inclined to write him a bonus check out of my own pocket in the interest of preserving what a great Hotel stay is supposed to encompass. I remain in awe that Aloft Mpls contines to put out a Cat 7 experience despite its midmarket position and rates that are fair enough to set a guest's expectations down several rungs. it's a shame that I can't mention other hotels by name here, because I would easily compare this aloft to many of the Platinum giants ive enjoyed in San Francisco, NYC, Paris and even London.
Well done. The hospitality business is tough & screwups are the rule, not the exception. Starwood should send the other GM's here to try and extract whatever magic this spot holds.

Rated 4 out of 5 by rland Parking is a serious issue
This hotel exceeded our expectations in every way except for parking. It was a daily stressor and the staff were clearly frustrated with it as well. The worst part is that you have to pay $15 per day for the inconvenience. Staff at the hotel were verbally abusive and condescending at times, and the staff at the lot were actually more supportive and understanding. It was embarrassing and inconvenient and the rules changed daily. I was charged for two nights that I didn't even park in the lot. We stayed a week and we couldn't get a weekly pass. Without exaggeration or exception, every time I was at the front counter dealing with parking, someone else was there with a similar complaint. I should have known when I checked in and the young man suggested that I park on the street overnight and plug the meter rather than deal with parking. I might expect this at a motel, but not at an otherwise exceptional establishment such as this. We stay in Minneapolis for a week every year and stayed previously at another chain up the street, where we paid less for parking and were given one come-and-go pass for the week. I stay up to 50 nights a year for business and some family travel and we are loyal to one or two chains. We like the rewards program so we were thinking about making the switch, but this was not a good impression and we were made to feel it was our problem, not the hotel's. We even missed a Fringe show because we had to back out of the line and were given two passes that didn't work! To add insult to injury, this was our twentieth anniversary trip without the kids...

Rated 4 out of 5 by NMarie Great location & amenities, need to brush up on a few things
A friend and I chose to stay at Aloft Minneapolis while participating in the MS Challenge Walk this year.
Overall, it was a great stay! Location was great; there are a few restaurants & bars nearby, and downtown is within walking distance. I usually put friends and family up at hotels in downtown Minneapolis, but I will be including Aloft in my list for the future.
Kudos to Brian at the front desk for all his help. He really made us feel welcome upon check-in, joked around with us for a bit and asked about what brought us to the hotel. He was very attentive & answered all our questions. The bartender on duty was pretty helpful as well. We got the cold shoulder during our first 5 minutes at the bar, but eventually, he took our drink orders and gave suggestions on the menu! (On another note, I didn't think it was cool that he walked out to take a smoke break while there were people at the bar and we could see him sitting out on the patio.)
Aloft could have easily received 5 stars, but there were a few things that just did not bode over well with us: 1) We were not able to call the front desk or housekeeping from our room phone. Since there are no papers (i.e. notepad, hotel book, etc.) in the room that lists the phone number, I had to go to the website on my phone to get the number and call. 2) I requested a 5a wake up call...and never got it. Luckily, we woke up in time to continue on with Day 2 of our walk. 3) The light switches were a bit funny. Some of the lights wouldn't work unless all the lights in the room were on. Also had to reset the outlet a few times for the blowdryer to work.

Rated 2 out of 5 by travelers222 Very poor space planning for human convenience
To be clear, the staff here is wonderful. It's the chain concept I dislike. Though I appreciate this chain's attempt to minimize, they've gone unnecessarily overboard. There are no drawers. There are no suitcase racks. You have the choice to hang clothes (pack them in a tiny hanging area on only six hangers), place them on floor-level shelves below the hangers where people have most likely placed shoes recently, or keep them in your suitcase placed on the couch(which is inconveniently placed under the TV), place them in the safe, on the desk or on the floor. There is one other flat surface placed above the HVAC unit, but it is still unreasonable to expect to either leave your underwear and other un-hangable things out in the open or use your suitcase as a drawer. You can only watch TV from the bed. The shower is lit only by a small and recessed underpowered compact fluorescent. It's supposed to get light from the bedroom through frosted glass, but that's not possible when the lights are off in the bedroom due to a sleeping spouse. I have no problem with amenities being placed in dispensers, but combining shampoo and conditioner is just plain cheap and totally ineffective (my hair was like straw after using this "spa" amenity). The light switches are not logically configured and should be labeled. This hotel gave the overall impression of minimizing space, using cheap materials and amenities, and leaving all convenience out of the equation. I don't spend much time in the hotel room when traveling, but I do expect some anticipation of a traveler's needs. This hotel is overpriced for what it provides. Only the staff met expectations.

Rated 4 out of 5 by KSax Good Value
My husband and I stayed here Memorial Day Weekend. It was our first time in MN and we were visiting friends. We used SPG points to book our stay and were deciding btwn 1 of the 4 star spg hotels or ALOFT, which is a 3 star hotel and therefore less expensive. (Usually we try to stay 4star).
We are both very happy we stayed here. We read several reviews before we made our decision and 1 thing that has become a pet peeve of mine is when ppl write reviews of a 3 star hotel, and expect it to be 5 star for half the price. My advice- if you want 5 star... PAY EXTRA.
Aloft is very clean. The bed was super comfortable and the staff was very friendly. I think the IKEA analogy was right on point, but I have nothing against IKEA for temporary furniture, so same applies to hotels.
I did request a room on a higher floor, it was very quiet. Read some reviews that lower floors are noisy because of the bar. The bar seemed fairly tame though
We did not eat bkfst at the hotel because we are not into prepackaged sandwiches. so I can't comment on that. But basically anything you would want to get from a vending machine is available at the front desk.
The hotel is close to everything. Very easy to drive everywhere. We rented a car. Parking was $15/day. Easy, no issues.
The reason we did NOT give this hotel a rating of 5, is the towels were really not soft, the water pressure was weak, the toilet kept making noises (did not wake us up, but was annoying), the lighting in the shower area was dim and the closet was very small.
Otherwise, if you are considering staying at ALOFT for a weekend, we would recommend it.
Minneapolis is a cool city to check out, especially if you are going with kids. Great food too!
