Rated 3 out of 5 by unhappy Shuttle service
On arriving Dulles Airport I called for shuttle and was told it came every 30 minutes. At approx. 8pm at waiting area a shuttle did pass us by not even stopping at waiting area. I immediately called hotel and they said they would call driver to turn and pick us up. This never happened. I then called again and hotel said they would send another. We waited another 30 minutes, overall we waited an hour to be piked up. Very unsatisfactory service.

It was, as always, a nice experience. The rooms are well designed and the service is friendly and very prompt.

I really enjoyed my 2 day stay at this hotel. I was traveling to Maine and I stayed in some really bad places. This was a breathe of fresh air. The staff was great and friendly. The rooms were just "Wow". I will definitely stay here next time when I travel up north. You can't go wrong.

I've stayed at this hotel several times. This visit was Much better than my last, however, still a few small concerns. Firstly, we arrived while some type of fundraiser was happening in the lobby. The music was so loud that the staff member came around the desk to handle my check-in. He said it would be over at 11 (it was 6 then) and that he put me on the upper level and front of the building so I wouldn't hear the noise. When I got to the room, it smelled strange. A combination f musty and as though someone has smoked in the room and it was in the vent. I wet out for a while and returned just after 11 and the music had stopped but it was still quite loud in the lobby and I had to work my way through a large crowd I get to the elevators.
the old smoke smell was noticeable again when I used the shower, like the steam activated the smell again. Afterward, I was drying my hair and it stopped half way through. Thankfully there was a housekeeper close by and she replaced it with a working one.
I will say this was much better than my prior visit and clearly there have been many cosmetic improvements to this hotel. I'm a big fan of the Aloft hotels and usually seek them out when I travel. I'm glad they have made some improvements and hope they keep it up. However, I think a large reception and fundraiser in the lobby with music so loud you could hear it 5 floors up would not be conducive to a family staying and had I not made a reservation but had walked in, I'd likely not have stayed.

I confirmed a one night stay for "$35 plus Starwood Points." The bill slipped under my door showed $35 plus taxes plus an additional unexplaned SPG charge of $9.09 plus tax for a total of $9.99 additional. The clerk at the front desk said "It's something that Starwood does and you aren't the first person to complain about it." She said she couldn't do anything about it but would have the accounting manager contact me later in the day. After again trying to deflect responsibility to Corporate, the accounting person finally agreed to adjust my bill and credit my account. I later received a corrected invoice by email . When I didn't see a credit in a couple of days, I emailed and was told that an adjustment takes "5 to 11 business days" for their credit card processer. After 3 more weeks, I contacted them again and was told by email from the Operations Manager that he would "contact my credit card processer to expedite the process." It has now been an additional 10 days and I have filed a dispute with my credit card company. All over a $9.99 refund for a totally mysterious charge. Ridiculous!

Rated 2 out of 5 by VAPlanner Would not stay here again
While the staff of the hotel were friendly and helpful, we would not stay here again because:
1. While we were swimming in the hotel pool, another guest pulled down their swimming suit and urinated in the pool.
2. The party in the lobby lasted until 11PM, so in our 3rd floor room, the booming bass didn't stop until then, making sleep or rest difficult.
3. The bathroom door wouldn't stay shut.
4. The refridgerator was so loud, it sounded like there was heavy machinery being operated in the hallway.
5. And the final straw...a wake up call at 5 AM that we didn't set.
We were so glad to leave--it was not a nice or peaceful getaway at all.

I expected a modern take on simple comfort for the business traveler. What I found was a modern/cheap version of what they think might appeal to the "just out of college going on my first business trip" crowd.
If that is who you are going for, then you nailed it. I had to listen to people partying out on the patio until 3 in the morning. Not great when you have to catch a 6am flight.

This was my first aloft stay, and I was impressed! Aside from having to use the toll road to get to the property, it was easy to get to, and close to Dulles Airport. As a platinum, I was given a voucher for a free soft drink, chips or a king-sized candy bar, and a free breakfast sandwich. In addition to my points as my platinum amenity.
The room was a little smaller than usual, but nicely laid out. It had a lounging type sofa underneath the flatscreen, TV which was nice. Two complimentary bottles of water were in the room.
The gym is in a large room, but only had one treadmill. Other exercise machines were available though. Staff was friendly and excited when I told them this was my first aloft stay.
