The hotel was modern with a European flair. The space was designed for maximum efficiency. Easy to get to great shops and wonderful restaurants.

No radio, lighting in bedroom teririble. No way to conceal underwear from guests on bookcase type sheving. Will not stay at any A Loft's again.

The staff is very friendly and recognizes you by name. The hotel has an edgy hip feel and decent workout facilities.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Anita1953 This Hotel is overpriced for what you receive
Deceiving at best. You do not get what you pay for. Poor check-in time. No "free" breakfast like at other hotels.

Rated 2 out of 5 by KKWaters Good location but has slipped a bit
I found this last stay a dissapoointment. The room 524 had carpet that you could tell there was a stain on it and the toilet did not work at all. Not only did it not flush when you tried to, it also made a lot of noise just to sit on the seat- like something is broken. . I had a quick trip in and out so I told them at the end. I am sure they could fix the flushing part but the other part seems to need an overhaul. The worst part was I had misplaced my car keys and asked them to give the room a thorough check when the housekeepers cleaned it. Well it turns out that my keys were in the safety box in the room (where I put them- my error) and they never opened it. So I figured it out and went back to the hotel and they had checked someone else into the room. So together we were able to get my personal belongings out of the noom. Because of this and I know it is my fault, I did miss my flight. Essentially, they never checked/cleaned the room fully. I had to find a place to stay the night. Apparentally Aloft had to hold rooms for other guests although the gent at the front desk said he had 2 open? So despite being a platinum guest, I had to find lodging elseware. I was really disappointed, the front desk gent was nice but could not help. They did buy me an apple and a banana.

Rated 3 out of 5 by NewYorkCityboy At least it was better than the last time.
At least the parking situation was corrected since my last visit. What a mess that was and all the staff would do is apologize and stare at you as if that should be enough.
I notice so many folks rate this hotel so highly. They must not do a lot of traveling or are used to real budget hotels. This is a chic boutique, loft style wanna-be hotel. At first glance, it is a bit of a slick show, but an experienced traveler will soon discover that there is little or no substance. The rooms are slick looking until you realize how "bare bones", stripped of amenities they are, right down to pencils in lieu of pens.
The closet space is stingy and there are absolutely NO drawers into which to unpack. I find the meager closets barely large enough for one person, never mind about two sharing a room and needing to unpack. Learn how to live out of your suitcases if you stay here.
Lighting over the sink is not very utilitarian. If you like light coming from overhead, casting shadows while you shave or apply make-up, then God bless you. Whoever designed these spaces probably never stayed in one of those rooms afterwards to see how nonfunctional they are.
The light switch over your bed is at the far side of the room so you must walk all the way around the bed to turn it off. What ever happened to dual switches on either side for ease of use?
There is absolutely no room service either. I cannot, for the life of me, see how anyone would give this hotel more than 2 or 3 stars at most! If you've ever stayed in a real 4 or 5 star hotel, you would know that the contrast is severe.
I only stay here because my company books me into this hotel. If I had a choice, I'd find a better hotel. Surely, in all of Birmingham, there must be a better one!

Rated 1 out of 5 by Pamala39 Disappointing
1-Star based purely on other Starwood Brand Hotels. Let me first start out by saying we LOVE Starwood Hotels!!! We go out of our way to stay in one of their brands. We have stayed at Starwoods internationally and throughout the USA. This, however, was our first and LAST stay at an ALOFT. Below standards of Starwood Hotel brand...guest service personal friendly (Garrett at the front desk is so friendly and sincere!!! ALOFT's main attribute as far as I'm concerned!) -yes: affordable -yes: pet friendly -yes: free parking and internet -yes, yes!
But ALOFT is all down hill from there....noisy hallways, not enough sound proofing in the rooms so outside/hallway traffic easily heard (which is great when your traveling with a 20# watch dog -note: this is said dripping in sarcasm!). In fact, the rooms and hotel walls are so poorly insulated that I could hear wind chimes from a neighboring apartment complex balcony!! Also, the housekeeping staff and management, I have to assume is subpar! As evidenced by: Not enough help at the front desk (poor over worked kid was trying his best to hold down the fort!). Elevator and other floors were covered in debris, hallway walls are marred from guests toting their own luggage to their rooms (there is no bell hop). First we were given a handicap accessible room without being told so we had to schlep our way back to the front desk, dog and baggage in hand. Then we were given a dirty room (i.e., hair and makeup in a "made-up" bed") and move to another (dirty) room (yes, that was the 3rd room!!!) that had some unknown substance that was hopefully "spilled" on the bench seating in the room. TV not movable (only viewable from bed), seating for ONLY one at the desk, and shampoo/bodywash/conditioner in "green" dispensers in the showers. This is a nice touch trying to be "green" and all, but, I can't help but wonder about how sanitary this considering the obviously blatant lack of care of the housekeeping staff. I could go on -but, I'll end my comments by saying the ALOFT was TOTALLY DISAPPOINTING!!! I would sleep in my car before I EVER stayed at the ALOFT in Birmingham again.
