Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent service and a very cool area The staff made us feel very welcome, all of them. In particular, Megan at the front desk was very helpful. Gave us a printout of local, walkable restaurants and a map of how to find them. The bartenders were very attentive but not overly pushy, and we didn't have but one drink but they did check on us while we enjoyed our coctails in the outdoor lounge so we were able to smoke and chill out there. The weather was perfect for it, and it has very comfortable and hip furniture and a fireplace. The room was smaller than I would have thought but not too small by any means. Loved the layout of the room and the functionality of the bathroom. Excellent, spa-quality shower. I asked for a room on the top floor and got it, and had a brilliant view of the local area and a fantastic view of the Vulcan statue. This was my first stay at an Aloft, and I spent HOURS and HOURS of time researching which hotel to stay in for this area. I tried all the various travel websites and this was the hotel I chose. I felt like I hit a homerun with chosing Aloft. Excellent staff, great rooms/ambiance/cleanliness, fantastic location. July 8, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Not for families Due to the layout of the guest rooms, I would not recommend this for families. Specifically, the bathroom has a sliding door that doesn't completely close and a frosted window between the guest room and the shower. The first time I stayed in this hotel the toilet was clogged, and not in a way that housekeeping should have missed. This stay, there was a condom wrapper and other trash on the floor in the room. (I also find it odd that they sell "personal lubricant" in the lobby) The pool table in the lobby and the good restaurants in walking distance are positive aspects of this hotel. May 26, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Absolutely no amenities. 1. Very limited closet space and no drawers whatsoever in any of the rooms. I don't know how 2 adults could share the meager storage space in these rooms. You must learn how to live out of your suitcase. 2. Lighting is not very good. A. Vanity lighting over sink is directly overhead.Whatever happened to lights in front of you, to both sides, for even lighting? B. Ambient soft lighting switch is on the far side of the room so you must walk all the way around the bed every time you want to flip the switch. C. Lighting in the toilet/shower area is dim. While standing at the toilet, you create your own shadow interfering with visibility. 3. No room service. 4. Plastic cups and pencils in room instead of real glassware and pens. 5. A. Bad remote control for TV. I had to request a new one. B. TV is very slow to respond to channel changes. C. Adult entertainment channels are geared ONLY for the straight audience. You are totally out of luck if you are a gay man. 6. Shower was difficult to adjust. Either you like your shower very hot or very cold. Somewhere in the middle range it seemed that only the hot water was on. With a small adjustment, the cold came RUSHING OUT. 7. Noisy. I had the first room on the second floor. Noise from the conference room parties and the lounge below were so noticeable that I had to close the hallway door for a bit of silence. 8. No one at front desk to greet me when I arrived. Granted, it was late in the evening, but how can the front desk be left unattended?. 9. Housekeeping. I asked for some extra towels to get through the week since I opted for the green service. Before I even got to use them, they were removed the next day. This is a bare bones hotel pretending to be a slick New York style loft hotel. I am from NY and believe me it is none of that. Whoever designed the hotel and it's facilities, clearly has NEVER STAYED HERE! I stay here because my company arranges the booking. It is not my choice. I am working on getting them to change my accommodations. This hotel may be fine for single day stays, but I was there for a full week. I have stayed here before and it has always disappointed. If you are a seasoned traveler and are use to good hotel amenities, this is NOT the place for you. I do not recommend this hotel while staying in Birmingham. June 9, 2013

Rated 5 out of 5 by Aloft's New Style New Approach is Refreshing! New Year's Eve in Aloft Birmingham was great. Michael's (the restaurant) served up a tremendous meal--Cinnamon Rolls served while waiting for dinner were THE BEST!! Service and Food was Tremendous. Aloft Staff really seem to love where they work and pass their excitement to the guests. Re-Fuel is a superb approach for today's traveler--providing 24/7 access to food and beverages. Modern design of the hotel room gives even today's older traveler a little pop and something different from the traditional hotel. Love Aloft. Will stay again! We were just traveling through and it happened to be New Year's Eve. We really enjoyed!! January 2, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Samford parent This hotel is in a good location. The common areas were dirty and the staff in the xyz or whatever where you can buy sundries rude. The rooms are not comfortable at all. Hard beds, loud air conditioner, bad lighting, the switch for the over the bed lights are only on one side and on the same switch. Who came up with that? There is one desk chair and that is it. I couldn't find one piece of paper or any information on the hotel in the room. The front desk was fine but not really pleasant. I think they missed the mark on chic and stylish. It's more like cheap and uncomfortable. Not to mention overpriced. I would not recommend February 16, 2013

I really like the decor and it seems so neat the way they have the organized shelves for your robe, clothes, shoes, etc. It was just perfect. June 29, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Not accomadating I travel quite a bit for my job. This particular stay was quite unpleasant as I was put next to the elevator. The elevator itself was so loud and I was very sick that night. When I called to finally ask for some ear plugs or something to help, I was told the hotel did not have any ear plugs and that was all they could do. No offer to switch rooms. I was very sick all night and did not get much sleep for an early morning conference. This is a dissapointment as I know that the hotel is suppose to have high standards but even when I check out and said I had a terrible stay, the person working the front desk just said sorry. Rated 3 out of 5 by Great location, problems with the room The location of the hotel was great, but the room needed improvement. 1) The refrig sounded like a broken lawn mower 2) lighting in room was too dark at night, and the hotel kept saying I chose the green option for housekeeping which I had not. At check-in I specially mentioned I needed housekeeping each day since I was traveling with 2 small children. Housekeeping was provided on the first day, but not on the 2nd or 3rd. This is especially annoying since I was sick and called down and explained that I would need more towels. Towels arrived late that night and my room was never cleaned! January 16, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by 3 guests for wedding weekend We rented 4 rooms for 7 people for a total of 8 nights for a wedding weekend. When one our party arrived late (confirmed late arrival) their room had been given away. This couple had specific reasons for renting the room given away, which included a balony. They went to another hotel. We had planned for months for the family to be in the same hotel since we all live very far apart. My room had light bulb out over the bed. (The one light switch on only one side of bed to turn on lights over bed was irritating.) The bathroom toilet/shower area had no door or usable door. The toilet seat was loose so that you felt like it might come off when used! There was no comfortable chair or sofa, only a bench/desk chair to sit on. The lobby was so LOUD in the evening, conversation was impossible.Hang up clothes space in a room with a king bed was not big enough. The snack bar was outrageous in price for what was offered. Rated 4 out of 5 by Relaxing Stay! This was my second stay at the aloft in Birmingham. The entire staff (front desk, bartenders, housekeeping) were all extremely friendly and welcoming. My trip was business-related, so after a long day, it was wonderful to discover the addition of Michael's Restaurant to the hotel. I had originally planned to revisit a couple other restaurants from previous Birmingham trips, but once I experienced Michael's, I returned the following two nights! The free self parking was very convenient--I never had an issue trying to find a parking spot when returning each night. March 30, 2014

Rated 2 out of 5 by Disappointing Room to say the least While Amanda (the front desk person) and Ray (the service guy) were wonderfully attentive, the room and general condition of the facility was disappointing. In the advertising, it states to "leave your charging devices at home...they have a central station that would charge every type of electronic device". When we got in the room, it turned out that it was a unit that your chargers plugged in. Good thing we actually did bring ONE charger. The walls in the 5th floor hallway were scratched all along where the people had run their luggage and needed repair. Our room had both the safe & coffee pot broken and needed repair. The room had a view of the police station/jail. No I will not be staying there again. March 20, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Alright experience in Birmingham Fairly decent stay with only a few complaints: -Refrigerator didn't work and it took an entire day to get it fixed, which caused some of our food to go bad -Didn't enjoy having my three nights on three separate reservations, which meant every morning we got an early morning knock on the door asking when we'd check out and we had to reactivate our keys every day -I've received no less than 10 emails in the week since my stay (and three emails in the days leading up to my stay) asking me for surveys, special deals, and other items. Email overload is not something I was expecting. September 26, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by air The room thermostat did not seem to work, so you could either turn the AC on or off but setting the temperature did not matter and you could not put the unit fan on low. We turned it off at night due to the noise, so the room air it got humid during the night, June 9, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Ok, but not great I stayed in an Aloft in Richmond, Va back when it was new and it was clean and comfortable. This trip was to Birmingham, Al and I thought I would have the same experience, but the hotel there was not very clean. My room had stains all over the carpet, the bathroom was clean-ish, but not clean. I had dirt on the sink and the tile had some soap scum in the shower and there were water spots (pee???) near the toilet. I had to wipe off the television as the cleaning staff had smeared it. I did use the work out facility and it was absent of towels and the lobby tables were filthy. July 26, 2013

Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Stay! I stayed in the Homewood location for 3 nights. I was attending a wedding in town. I grew up maybe 6 blocks from the hotel. It was great! The area was great! The staff very nice. We had one hick up with hot water on Saturday afternoon. The hotel was quick to make amends. Housekeeping could use a boost. They would forget to finish - left pillows out of the cases the first night and didn't replace coffee. I figured inexperience and it can be corrected. My pup loved it too. We were both comfortable and safe at any time of day we were coming and going. Will be back. April 9, 2013

Rated 5 out of 5 by Super kindness We were shocked at how the hotel staff gave our pet Yorkie so much attention and made us feel very welcome. Kindness is special in Alabama and we were shown an abundance of it always greeted by name as we entered hotel lobby and met with smiles We had a room for our daughter and granddaughters also. We walked the lovely town of Homewood to restaurants and shopping . A truly wonderful experimence. Super clean and professional. This is our fav hotel where we will stay each time we are in Birmingham area. April 15, 2014

Rated 5 out of 5 by FAV Hotel Our very favorite hotel in the area. It's an hour's drive outside of our final destination for visiting the area, and we're happy to drive it to get there. Staff is so welcoming to our little four-legged baby boy. Amenities are concentrated in all the right areas. LOVE the huge shower. Only one problem: TVs at the XYZ bar are too small to enjoy. And the 4 larger TVs on the opposite wall which would do well enough are put together as one screen and whatever you're watching is broken into 4 slices - really hate that effect - only good for music videos. During game season those TVs should be separated so they can be enjoyed. But that didn't ruin our stay, though - just meant we had to stay in our room to be able to enjoy watching football. Rated 4 out of 5 by Enjoyed my stay I enjoyed my stay at the hotel. I have stayed here a couple of times and still have not figured out were the iron or the light switch for over the bed is located. Love the loft concept. The refresh bar pricing is a little confusing because no every thing as a price. The man at the front desk the morning of my check out was very helpful. Rated 4 out of 5 by Overall Good - only a few downsides Staff were very friendly and accomodating. This, plus the nice room, are the major upsides of the hotel. The bar and lounge are nice as well. The biggest downside for me was that when I got on the elevator to go to my room around 11pm there was vomit all over the inside. I alerted the front desk. Unfortunately when I used the same elevator to come down the next morning it still smelled of vomit and you could see streaks on the hastily cleaned panels. Other minor downside - no shuttle to or from the airport. Costs about $20 for a cab. August 7, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by Worst experience in a long time. Closet space and lack of drawers make it difficult to unpack anything. Lighting at wash basin is directly overhead, making for terrible utility. No room service at all. Parking was awful. Several nights of my 4 night stay, despite valet service, I had to drive around to find a place to park because no one was available in the front to take my car, so I moved on rather than blocking traffic behind me. I wound up parking several blocks away. Staff at desk were reluctant to offer anything but an apology for the dreadful parking situation until I persisted. I would probably stay some place else but, this is where my company books when I travel. Adult films in room cater only to straight clientele. If you are gay, you are out of luck for this kind of entertainment. August 21, 2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by Disappointing 1-Star based purely on other Starwood Brand Hotels. Let me first start out by saying we LOVE Starwood Hotels!!! We go out of our way to stay in one of their brands. We have stayed at Starwoods internationally and throughout the USA. This, however, was our first and LAST stay at an ALOFT. Below standards of Starwood Hotel brand...guest service personal friendly (Garrett at the front desk is so friendly and sincere!!! ALOFT's main attribute as far as I'm concerned!) -yes: affordable -yes: pet friendly -yes: free parking and internet -yes, yes! But ALOFT is all down hill from there....noisy hallways, not enough sound proofing in the rooms so outside/hallway traffic easily heard (which is great when your traveling with a 20# watch dog -note: this is said dripping in sarcasm!). In fact, the rooms and hotel walls are so poorly insulated that I could hear wind chimes from a neighboring apartment complex balcony!! Also, the housekeeping staff and management, I have to assume is subpar! As evidenced by: Not enough help at the front desk (poor over worked kid was trying his best to hold down the fort!). Elevator and other floors were covered in debris, hallway walls are marred from guests toting their own luggage to their rooms (there is no bell hop). First we were given a handicap accessible room without being told so we had to schlep our way back to the front desk, dog and baggage in hand. Then we were given a dirty room (i.e., hair and makeup in a "made-up" bed") and move to another (dirty) room (yes, that was the 3rd room!!!) that had some unknown substance that was hopefully "spilled" on the bench seating in the room. TV not movable (only viewable from bed), seating for ONLY one at the desk, and shampoo/bodywash/conditioner in "green" dispensers in the showers. This is a nice touch trying to be "green" and all, but, I can't help but wonder about how sanitary this considering the obviously blatant lack of care of the housekeeping staff. I could go on -but, I'll end my comments by saying the ALOFT was TOTALLY DISAPPOINTING!!! I would sleep in my car before I EVER stayed at the ALOFT in Birmingham again. December 29, 2012

Added bonus — I was able to connect my laptop to the room's flat screen with ease and watch a Cards game thanks to the multi media hub in each room. May 14, 2014
