Rated 5 out of 5 by A great base for exploring northern Manhattan Being in downtown Harlem, there are lots of incredible restaurants nearby. Four relaxing parks are a short walk from the hotel, and the subway is only a block away if you want to venture further. The staff were very friendly - we'll definitely be back! July 10, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great experience Even though the transportation from Newark airport was a mess, the hotel was quite nice! We stayed during the Super Bowl weekend and had great service from the hotel staff. They were very helpful with daily transportation to all over manhattan including uptown, east side, time square, etc. Also, the hotel was very quite at night (even though we didn't get back to the hotel until the morning...) and was kept to top level. On the day of my departure, I wan't myself to the continuous partying, Seattle winning the Super Bowl, and having to get up early for the airport and left my wallet, keys to my car, and passport in the safety deposit box in the room. Luckily I had my license and credit cards for the return flight. Front desk staff, Laurel Harris, was very understanding and helpful in retrieving everything from the safety box and sending it to my home over night. THANK YOU! February 11, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great location with very friendly staff We booked this hotel with hurry. The location is perfect for spending several days in NYC and the staff are very nice. Will go back again. July 22, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best hotel ever!!! The staff was very pleasant and provided 5 star service. The design of the hotel is fabulous and my entire family enjoyed our stay. It was conveniently located to suit our needs and made area restaurants accessible, along with the ability to get to the subway. We enjoyed our stay and plan to visit the Aloft again. Thanks for providing top notch service and accomodations. Looking forward to our return stay! January 28, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Location and Staff The room was smaller than many hotels but one doesn't need a big space to basically sleep in. Large shower. The sink is separate from the rest of the bathroom which was a nice feature. Comfortable bed too. The staff were friendly and helpful, polite and treated us well. Excellent spot for connecting by subway or bus so the location was ideal. Nice boutique hotel and I would definitely stay there again. October 20, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Wonderful Staff, Very nice hotel! This was my first trip to NY and the helpful staff answered all my questions and pointed me in the right direction when I asked for assistance. I had a medical emergency and didn't know how to get a cab/car to stop for me, but one of them ran out and took care of it for me. Front desk, security, the bartender, housekeeping...every one we came across was friendly and fun and most of all very helpful. August 30, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by This Hotel is real cozy The Hotel was nice, I liked the wxyz lounge, the rooms were compact but cozy. I would stay again. July 22, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Grate experience The service accomplished all our expectations. The rooms were clean and spacious, the staff was very helpful and gentle. The location is great if you want a safe quiet place but only two blocks away from the subway, so you can get to midtown in 20 minutes or you can walk to central park (15 blocks away). Beds are comfortable and decoration was pretty cool. An excellent place and a great price. April 15, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by I'll be back! Great hotel, very cool vibe. I haven't been to New York since 2006 and this made me wanna stay. ALL of the staff were great and Estella who was room service staff was lovely. Love love love Harlem ! Like I said I'll be back! July 3, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by A different Experience...Fun!!! I would sum up my stay here as...A pleasant surprise!!! First, you are greeted by a staff that really seems to be glad to have you. (Aloft, don't ever change that!) The staff was also helpful throughout our stay (Friday 12/20 to Monday 12/23) Second, the lobby has a hip feel to it but not too over the top. P.S.- Ioved the Christmas décor. Third, there was a DJ there on Friday and Saturday night and the ambiance was social and somewhat party like but not like the club scene. The atmosphere was festive. To add, it was nice to have the complimentary bottled water and the coffee was better than average. Location, location, location....don't be afraid because it's in Harlem. 1. close to multiple bus routes (including a bus to LaGuardia airport) 2. close to discount shopping ( food and other wise) 3. close to subway station I will definitely stay here again. Kudos to Aloft and keep up the good work!!!! December 28, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fantastic Place My husband and I were impressed from the moment we walked into Aloft. We were treated with genuine courtesy throughout our 5 day stay by all of the staff. The room was out of this world beautiful, clean, huge, and convenient. The location was perfect for our need to have easy access to the Columbia neighborhood. The subway is just steps away! We can't wait to plan a return stay. May 25, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Things have gotten better My first experience with this hotel was in July of 2012. I was slightly disappointed by the attitudes of the staff, and the elevator wasn't work. Fast Forward to March 2014 and everything is the exact opposite. The staff was friendly and attentive, and everything was in working order. If you're in Harlem it's a great place to stay and close to restaurants and the subway. March 4, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Perfect Staycation in Harlem I needed a break from the four walls I call my home and decided to stay at the Aloft. The staff were very friendly and when I had an issue with the thermostat a technician was dispatched immediately. As I'm often cold he even went to find me a heater just so I could be warm! The only reason I won't give them five stars... they need a full service restaurant on-site. January 11, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Surprised me - again. My first stay was a test and it went well. My second was out of necessity because everything in midtown etc was booked or $500 - but it turned out to be my good fortune. Front desk staff is very nice, hotel is one stop (!) on the D from midtown, and most shockingly: I slept. I never sleep well in hotels. Quiet, clean, comfortable - the gym was even decent. Stay here! Rated 3 out of 5 by Wouldn't stay again Room was adequate. Peeling wall paper, dirty shower and incredibly noisy. Staff did not follow through. My reservation was not correct. Sent a disgusting car service for transportation. I requested to use my credit car with the car company and they were not equipped. June 13, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great place to staty in Harlem The hotel was clean and modern and quiet. I would definitely recommend it. July 14, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Welcomed Delight Stumbled upon this hotel and so glad I did. It's a gem nestled in Harlem, walking distance to the subway, fabulous food, and the historic Apollo Theater. Staff is gracious, welcoming, and helpful. The smallness of my room was offset by its wonderful use of minimal space resulting in comfort. ALoft Harlem now tops my list of places to stay while in NYC. March 10, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Staff is the friendliest in NYC! We loved this hotel, it was what we needed at a good price for NYC. The location is very accessible by subway, A train express takes you to Times Square, Central Park. M60 bus takes you straight to La Guardia airport. Rooms are clean, shower is nice :) free water, coffee, tea, local phone calls. The staff is super helpful and friendly. We felt welcomed :) October 10, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by nice hotel - check plugs before you charge your devices problem with TV hdmi input and power outlets July 15, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Carpet had a stain While the Aloft reservation agent and staff were very accomodating and made my stay easy, I was disappointed to find stains on the carpet in the room. I will stay at Aloft again, but I hope the group will do a better job at stain removal from the carpets. Sadly, this is not the first time I have stayed at an Aloft that had a carpet stain in the room. February 23, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Aloft Harlem Just returned from a 2nd stay at Aloft Harlem. Like the hotel facility, staff, and location very much. Would stay here again. All rooms are non-smoking. Compact space, but well-organized. If I could make one suggestion, it would be to increase the lighting in the rooms...they are a bit dark. We will definitely stay here on future visits to NYC. July 29, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fun and Functional The Aloft Harlem met all of our needs. We wanted to stay near Columbia University. The hotel was convenient in location to Columbia and to a metro station so we could quickly board the subway for quick trips to other areas of Manhattan. The staff was friendly and upbeat. The room was clean and comfortable. Will stay there again! June 21, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Luxury in Harlem Villiage Arrived to found a very upscale hotel in the middle of Harlem to my delight. Really great features all around. I was greeted warmly by staff and front desk. Rachel was friendly and professional, made the experience pleasant. I may have found a spot for my next visit to the area and I'm telling my friends to check it out as well. May 3, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by LOVE THE WXYZ LOUNGE this hotel was a great location to midtown and the world famous 125th st. Did a little shopping, eating, and drinking in the village of Harlem. I would come back again. June 20, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Enjoyable stay Stayed here 3 nights for proximity to Columbia University - 10-15 minute walk. Reception staff very welcoming and helpful. Compact room which met our needs adequately Endless coffee and tea in reception area AC was a bit noisy as was the street noise so recommend asking for a quieter room at check-in Would stay here again. Rated 5 out of 5 by Warm & efficient staff!! My daughter & I had a really lovely stay at Aloft Harlem. The staff was just wonderful: friendly, competent, engaging & welcoming. I look forward to making Aloft my hotel of choice in the future. Interestingly, my daughter reminded me that we had a wonderful experience at Aloft in Prague in ''11. March 30, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by I would stay again Hotel was good. Room was clean. The air conditioning was not the best, but we were in a corner room and the sun was beating on the large front window all day. Couldn't get it below 74 degrees in the daytime. Besides that, great staff, and cool lounge area. Location is great if you need to stay way uptown in NYC. July 1, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by rooms disappointing first room on 2nd floor was very warm, 77 degrees and thermstat did not work, nor did hookup for ipod player\ said they would fix the thermastat but when we returned to room had not done so. So had to move to 3 rd floor, room was better but again ipod hook up did not work. lobby in basement , not attaractive March 11, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by be careful what room you get We chose this hotel because of its location and the good deal we were able to get. The room we had (504) is inferior. The view was of some brick walls, which didn't bother me too much since we weren't there for the view. There was essentially no cell reception in the room, making the sending of even a simple text a 50/50 proposition. Forget about an actual conversation or checking your e-mail. The room has not been adequately maintained over the years. The shower glass leaked where it should be sealed to the tile, wallpaper was peeling in the bathroom, and the TP holder had been broken and then bent back, leaving two sharp raw metal edges. All simple quick fixes. The room shape was a long skinny rectangle. If someone was seated at the desk, the chair would be bumped up against the foot of the bed making passage impossible. A crappy room. I peeked into one of the rooms at the front of the building. It had multiple windows, and a better shape allowing free movement behind the desk chair. Did not inspect for maintenance issues. The front desk folks were OK, but not inclined to go the extra mile. The lobby was attractive. I was not nearly as impressed as they hoped one would be. Rated 5 out of 5 by Great NYC Hotel Experience First-time visit to this hotel. Courteous and gracious staff. Nice facilities. Convenient location. Interesting neighborhood.Room for improvement: No bureau drawers to store clothing. No direct light in bathroom (you have to turn on room light to illuminate bathroom...not ideal when roommate is sleeping!) November 28, 2012
