Rated 4 out of 5 by Spgloyal45 Nice hotel but not the valet service
While I have enjoyed this hotel and have stayed many times since it opened, I cancelled future reservations here due to repeated delays and confusion with the valet service offered. For the price charged I would expect a smoother running service here. If you aren't using the valet service then this hotel is fine.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Sarah14 Underwhelming
As someone who travels often for business, I rely heavily on the hotel amenities. They do not offer shampoo and conditioner - only a shampoo that is in a soap dispenser on the bathroom walls. The body lotion is also very small (you can request more, but it is just annoying). The room was VERY hot and swampy. I think the floors were heated, which was nice underfoot, but it made the entire room uncomfortably warm (even with the AC on) and smell weird. Additionally, I always steam out my suits as soon as I get to my room. The bathroom was not set up for steaming (really long and narrow with a sliding door that did not provide a good seal). For the amount of money the rooms cost, my expectations were much higher. I will not stay here again in the future.

Friendly staff; great location. Wasn't sure what to expect. Quaint. Loved the room fragrance which smelled like fabric softener.

Rated 5 out of 5 by JVaLDye Always a pleasure stay
Stayed at this property a handful of times now. It seems to be my destination stay whenever I'm in Chicago. Close to everything like restaurants, bars, attractions. Staff are always nice specially the front Desk. For this stay, it was a birthday celebration for my partner and I. Erica (Front Desk) sweet as ever gave use coupons for my favorite restaurant, very attentive to our needs and was just all in all awesome.
Thank you for making our stay special for us!

Rated 2 out of 5 by rodgernm New hotel- RUDE Management
We have been members of SPG since 2000. I can definitely tell the overall changes in the program, and this hotel experience was a great example.
I arrived early. The hotel manager checked me in- first question: are you a member (yes, that should be clear from the reservation) second question: have you ever stayed with us before? Answer: yes- 4 times since you OPENED IN JUNE!
Then, she questioned why I needed a room with 2 beds since my reservation was for my wife and me. Again- what a rude question. to be clear, she didn't ask if it was a mistake, she said, "why did you book 2 beds?" None of your business.
Let me compare this to a recent stay in NYC at another hotel chain. I was greeted: Hello, I see you are a club member and that you've stayed with us before. Welcome back Mr.... we've upgraded your room... etc etc. Btw, I barely stay at this other chain. I stayed at this hotel 4 years ago!
How nice it would be to be recognized that I had stayed on the property before and was returning or that I had been a loyal member for years. What I don't expect is an interrogation when I check in to a Starwood property. Clearly, the training program at the Aloft needs work- if not an attitude adjustment for their management staff.

Rated 2 out of 5 by BigBill Probably wouldn't stay again
I said that I wouldn't stay again, but I will elaborate, I am just being honest here. Generally I am a very big fan of Aloft for up to 2-3 nights if I am with my wife or up to 5 if I am by myself. I chose this less than 6 month old Aloft (check the on-line photo maps, it's being built de novo) as it was 3 blocks from another brand hotel where a meeting I was attending was being held. It was :15 from room to meeting, so I stay brand loyal whenever I can. I was just sleeping there, so I chose the Aloft over another SPG brand that was actually closer and I was by myself. Here's the problem in a nutshell, the franchisee owner cheaped out every way they could and do a couple of odd things. The staff took very good care of me, recognized my status putting me on a high floor with a view and all that. OK. The plumbing was ridiculous (remember new build). Sink flow was incredibly low, shower pressure was a little better, noticed different hardware was in this shower than other Alofts. The room was incredibly badly insulated, I could hear every footstep down the hall, every shade adjustment in adjacent rooms and the air blower was very loud. Shut off the blower and from the high floor one can hear voices at street level. Saturday night the room went to 75* waking me up yet the room control set at 65* and I could do nothing but turn off the noisy air blower. Every street noise was like I was at ground level, revelers, sirens honking horns like they do in Paris. Unacceptable to me, I mentioned at checkout and was given a token number of points. I comparably was in the lobby of the other hotel where the meeting was (15th floor there) and NO sound came up from the street. Incredibly cheap new build again, the owner chose to do it this way, I come from a family in construction, so I know. Notably, no pool, no spa. Different from most Aloft hotels, this one had a real restaurant in the lobby - run by Lettuce Entertainment, a well-known 40 year-running restaurant management company in Chicago known to me from the days I lived there. I wanted a nightcap my first night so I ordered a single malt at the bar. I was told that I could not sign it to the room, fine. The price was when checking the actual label to be certain, basically the cost of the bottle as I know my malts sideways. I refused it and did not patronize the restaurant. This reflects on the hotel owner & management group again NOT on SPG. Overall, this stay did not at all meet standards nor expectations, but the front desk staff was comprized of 100% great people that I dealt with. If you are a very sound sleeper the noise might not matter, but I like a quiet room to sleep. Also, this hotel is in a great restaurant neighborhood and there is no reason whatsoever as a hotel guest to eat at the serendipitous restaurant, not even part of the hotel and gouging liquor prices.
