Rated 2 out of 5 by They need to improve This hotel is still in experimentation mode. I am still here but my first night was scheduled separately. Tonight I have been changed to three rooms: 1st room: Heater didn't really work properly. It got cold frequently. Technician tried hard to fix, could not. 2nd room: Horrible smell of fragrance (maybe someone smoked there and they sprayed something) and security box was not working. 3rd room: Ended up at 2nd floor room where I don't really have much privacy as the people parking their cars can see you. That being said 3rd room kind of work. I would have expected a better experience as last time I spent 11 day here (that was in December) and this time I will spend 7 days. I come to the Bay Area very frequently and was planning to make of Aloft my primary base while in the Bay Area but after this visit I am starting to doubt it. That being said the services guys here tried to provide a good service but building maintenance is really needed. It is a management problem I think. January 8, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very clean and great staff. The staff was very courteous and helpful. The hotel and room were very clean. Our room was also extremely comfortable. We will defiantly stay here again. July 22, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Identity Crisis This hotel cannot decide if it is a hotel or a parking lot. The $20 self-parking fee is outrageous given that the lot is undisclosed in advance and neither covered, protected, nor particularly convenient to the hotel entrance. On that basis alone, I would not recommend this hotel. September 1, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Convenient SFO Option The Aloft Hotel is a convenient, sort of bare bones option if you need a place to stay close to SFO. The rooms have a minimalist, stark, almost dorm-like quality to them, but the beds are comfortable. Convenient to the airport via the excellent shuttle service. Not many services. January 4, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Unbearable Airport Sound Apparently they put the platinum customers facing the airport runway. I could not sleep because of the 24/7 takeoffs directly outside of my room, and the sirens from the road peppering the lulls in-between takeoffs. Also, the AC was not functioning properly. Would not recommend. September 30, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Airport Hotel The room was great, good design and a nice use of materials. But the proximity to the runways defeats any effort at soundproofing and the jet roar was intolerable, I changed hotels after one night. October 1, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great hotel near aiport Great modern hotel near the airport. Very clean and comfortable. Only City Occupancy Tax at $11.40 for a double room is too high and should be communicated by the hotel when booking done. December 9, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Lowest Point in the SPG Chain The room was dirty, the staff rude, the beds uncomfortable and the shower very poor. I would recommend staying pretty much anywhere else in the chain. February 8, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Quick stop before flight Great hotel, actually rooms were better than pretty much every W hotel I have stayed at. Only suggestion is to have breakfast options earlier January 6, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Relaxing Overnight Stay What a great staff and facility neat and clean. So happy we decided at the last minute to book our overnight stay. January 6, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Disappointed I had noticed an Aloft on a recent trip, so when this trip came up I looked for an Aloft to try. I book through a 3rd party a lot of the time, but called the reservation line for Aloft directly. I was told I could receive a better discount if I joined the SPG program. What was quoted to me over the phone is not what I later learned was my price, although the email confirmation was the higher price, I had trusted that a company of this size would not resort to such tactics. My room was very nice, but I could not figure out how to use the light switches, instead I had to go to the door every time I needed to turn lights on or off. 2 managers could not help me, they said they also had this problem. I paid for parking but did not receive a spot, it seems that the secondary business of the hotel is airport parking, which left myself and other guests with no parking spots. As a frequent travel I understand the tactical issues that might arise with new properties, and I would have been happy to give this property another chance, but the strategic decision that lead to my misunderstanding of the price, indicates to me that SPG is not the type of company I can do business with. Rated 3 out of 5 by Water pressure is terrible Water pressure was very weak from shower head. Other people staying in this hotel had the same problem. December 15, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great job Shows what design can do. A hotel does not need to go overboard to be luxurious. March 26, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by meh experience OK I'm an eco warrior, but the green approach to save water on washing bed linens (as sold to me when I checked in) turned out to be simply zero maid service. When I requested fresh towels, they arrived but the used ones were left on a pile in the middle of the bathroom floor. That's not green, that's simply poor service and the hotel saving money, and sorry but the room wasn't inexpensive. When I called down the next day to have the room cleaned up, they forgot. Second call late in the afternoon after a shower with no towels did the trick. I suggest a rethink of what seems to be a greenwashing marketing ploy. Because of that you get low low points for customer service. The food service was on a par with a school cafeteria. Pre-packaged meals? Really? With this size hotel, a comfortable place to eat a simple, good meal is expected. Instead this was more an AM/PM with chairs. Decent food goes a long way to make a good experience; this hotel totally misses this. On the positive side, I did like the room interiors. Only the army blanket curtain for the too small closet didn't work for me. Some good local art in the room would have connected your corporate hip formula to the physical location, too. Maybe you should have someone from corporate stay here for a few days? April 22, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Chris at the Front Desk was Extraordinary! I arrived close to 1 am without a reservation and had to leave no later than 4:30 am for a flight. I was physically tired but more emotionally drained as I was trying to reach Florida where my mother had been recently admitted to hospice care. I contemplated just trying to sleep in the airport parking lot for a few hours but on a whim decided to look for an affordable room close to the airport. I didn't tell the gentleman at the front desk, Chris, anything other than that I needed a room and had to leave very early for a flight. He went above and beyond telling me about the great rate afforded for a short term stay and then asked if I would be parking a car. I was so he offered me a package deal which included the stay as well as an excellent parking price (cheaper than the economy pricing at the airport) for the duration of my trip. Parking at the property meant that I had door-to-door bus service to the terminal which is so much more convenient than driving to and parking at the airport, especially when very tired. Finally, Chris gave me a very quiet room (without request) which meant that I got 3 very comfortable hours of sleep. Chris epitomizes professionalism and defines quality customer service. Kudos to the management at Aloft for hiring such a talented and hard working young man. I will definitely stay at your property again and tell others about my experience! June 9, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great location Located within walking distance of Milbrae transit station. Nice walking location near the bay. Airplane aficionados will love watching the airport. SPG recognition got us a great room on the sixth floor. It could not have been more quiet. The kitchen and bar could be improved upon. It's not a real "restaurant". If you want that, go to Westin next door. Bar was ok. Very personable employees throughout the hotel. November 6, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Long way to go... Positives 1) Close to San Fran and frequent shuttle service to airport. 2) Large parking lot, close to hotel front door. Inexpensive parking ($20 a day) 3) Clean, open concept. 4) Staff very pleasant and professional, even when dealing with difficult customers. 5) Free printing in business center. Negatives: 1) Housekeeping needs to work out kinks (no lotion, hand clothes, something to stir coffee with in room, etc. -- something different every day). 2) Need a drawer or basket of some kind. There are no drawers in room, so had to use the one shelf in the room that was way above my head for socks, underwear, etc. There is a limit to how 'minimalist you should go! 3) As a platinum / gold SPG member, it seems really cheap to have to pay for an apple or a piece of toast. Come on guys! Your competition includes in a free HOT breakfast everyday if you have status. 4) Internet was extremely slow. Even in business center. Informed management and was still slow 3 hours later. 5) Had to call help center to access wireless and they had me change some settings. Now having issues and will need to work with my IT group to fix. 6) Limited meal selections for dining in. Summary - For now, if given a reasonable choice, I would prefer to stay in another Starwood property and can not refer to anyone. Hopefully, in the next few months, they will get some issues taken care of and I'd be more apt to recommend. October 8, 2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by Unsatisfactory I was disappointed to arrive at the hotel to find the system to be down for the two days of my stay. I had to be escorted to my room multiple times. The hotel staff have provided no accommodations for the inconvenience. I was further disappointed that the hotel staff required me to leave my room and go to the front desk to pick up a tube of toothpaste, when they would have had to escort me back to my room any way. I was disappointed to find there to be no bathtub in any rooms available, nor room service of any kind. I was also disappointed at the insufficient entertainment available, such as movies-on-demand, or things of that sort. November 28, 2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by Noisy I was in room 109. Conviently located next to the 24 hour gym. Imgaine music blaring all night long and people running on the treadmill all night long for a wonderful nights sleep. I had to call the front desk at 4am. She was clueless and I then needed to call back 15 minutes later bc she didn't " know where the music was coming from". It finally went off at 5 am. Just in time to get up. The front desk, one guy, was working double time he didn't acknowledge, until I did, the awful nights sleep and offered bonus points for the inconviemce. It then took over 20 minutes for a cab to come at a hotel located right next to the airport. August 28, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Hotel My husband and I really enjoyed our stay, they staff was amazing. They went above and beyond to ensure we had a nice experience. Supervisor Alan and Staff member Guillermo stand out the most to us. There professionalism and great customer service made our stay one we will never forget. Our room was amazingly fresh and clean I honestly loved every moment of time there. The bar area was full of life and excitement, the way the hotel is setup it invites everyone to be social and mingle. The Pool table and Dj Saturday night made us feel like hanging out all night long. I will be returning to the aloft sfo next time I am in town. October 4, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Hotel smells good and clean Came up for football game. Krissy at front desk was awesome, went out of her way for my needs. From the minute you walked in it smelled heavenly. Room was very clean and nice. Shower was nice and sink area. Bar was ok, Annette was accommodating even with a huge bday party and by herself still gave great service. The only thing, they were out of more of the things on menu. Not her fault, she did her best. Coming back in January for playoffs and will stay her again. The one thing I didn't like was parking situation. Had to pay no matter what as was privately owned. As a starhot person usually get free parking. Kinda pricey. December 13, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Where's my eggs ?? Great concept, hard working staff, very thought out rooms. So why can't you get breakfast thats not processed egg patties ? The 25 minute wait for my non-breakfast was a turn-off especially being a business traveler on a tight schedule. November 5, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Off night I stay here often but this time things were just off. Room next to a barking dog and ice maker and then they forgot my wake up call...luckily I had a back up alarm and it was daylight savings. Usually I love staying here so will not hold one night against them. November 3, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Hip place to stay!!! Nice place to stay. Now I want to remolded my home like the room I stayed in. November 3, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by NEVER EVER AGAIN. DISRESPECT IN ITS HIGHEST FORM. I was so upset over this situation, I had to count to 100- and the 10+ people I have already told, agreed with me fully. - I called 3 days before my stay. My guest was arriving before me and he lost his credit card a couple days prior. He still had his ID/passport and ample cash needed to pay for the room plus any deposits needed. I was arriving several hours later- Upon arrival he is met with a snippy front desk agent. (you know that certain typical kind, that think are better than everyone else) He was told he could not check in without a credit card. EVEN THOUGH i called and made prior notes of this happening. The manager with not a shred of care or concern- told him to just go sit at the bar and wait - mind you he just got off a 7 hour flight, tired, hungry - and of course they didn't even offer a drink. He was treated like a vagrant. I was in flight at the time so he could not contact me. Go sit and wait? What if my flight was cancelled and I didn't make it til the early morning. I'm surprised you didn't you have him arrested for loitering. This is the utmost disrespect to me and my feeling of loyalty to the brand since 2004. We have stayed in much higher category SPG properties than this where they actually know how to treat you with respect. I don't know why this hotel thinks they are better then anyone else. I've got news for you. you are a select service hotel with pre packaged food at an airport. What if I would have lost my wallet on the plane or in travel- and anyone knows how very stressful that can be. It happens- BOTTOM LINE - Any idiot knows, you take care of the people most loyal to you, not spit in their face when faced with a problem. Be warned if you lose your wallet, your screwed. This hotel lies to you says its ok at first, they will let a PLATINUM member or their family sleep in the street rather then accommodate them. I work in the entertainment industry and we all travel often. I will be sure to pass this along. DISGUSTED. May 17, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Aloft SF Great hotel - clean and comfortable. But not happy to have to pay for parking when you pay this much for a hotel room October 28, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by SPG Recognition I was a bit disappointed that there was no attempt to extend any benefit to me as an SPG member. On the trip up the west coast from LA to SanFran, various concessions were extended to me as an SPG member including use of the Club Lounge, Parking concessions, and Wifi. I know you limited within the Aloft structure but I would have expected a concession on parking which I felt was high in the first instances. As my first experience with Aloft, my wife and family were pleasantly surprised. We will book an Aloft in the future but you need better SPG recognition. August 25, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Modern amenities We liked the hotel, especially the very modern decor. Staff was helpful and the room comfortable October 26, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great for a simple use I arrived almost midnight and left for a morning flight of 6am. So, I didn't do much at the hotel except a shower and a sleep. For that simple experience, the hotel was very functional and comfortable. WiFi worked well and the free airport shuttle was great. October 20, 2014
