2014:

  • Published first Global Citizenship (GC) report
  • Launched Global Water Consumption Positioning Statement
  • Launched Starwood Cares for the Community, a global associate volunteerism program

2013:

  • Developed Starwood Foundation program focused on workplace readiness
  • Launched Make a Green Choice and Sustainable Meeting Practices as global brand standards
  • Set GHG emissions reduction goal of 30% by 2020

2012:

  • Integrated Hotel Carbon Measurement Initiative (HCMI) as the standard for measuring guestroom night and meeting emissions
  • Published Starwood’s first Sustainable Food & Beverage Policy including the elimination of sea turtle and whale
  • Integrated Global Citizenship into Starwood’s triple bottom line business strategy

2011:

  • Published Human Trafficking Position Statement
  • Re-launched Starwood Foundation
  • Established partnership with Clean the World
  • Launched Make a Green Choice customer program

2010:

  • Reported CDP Water Disclosure and Supply Chain
  • Set 30/20 by 20 energy and water reduction goals

2009:

  • Launched Sustainable Meeting Practices for hotel events
  • Established partnership with Conservation International
  • Launched internal Global Citizenship intranet portal
  • Established Global Citizenship as corporate function

2007:

  • Established a Human Rights Policy
  • Reported carbon footprint to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP)

1995:

  • Established partnership with UNICEF
