Miguel Ko

Non-Executive Chairman, Asia Pacific

Miguel Ko is Non-Executive Chairman of the Asia Pacific region in recognition of his important role leading Starwood’s growth in Asia Pacific and his deep relationships in the region. Previously, Mr. Ko was Chairman and President of the Asia Pacific Division with strategic oversight of the operating and financial performance of the region. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Ko was Deputy Chairman and CEO of CDL Hotels International.

Mr. Ko's hotel career began at ITT Sheraton Corporation, spanning from 1979 to 1992. He started as an Internal Audit Supervisor and rose quickly to senior management positions including Area Controller, Vice President Controller, Senior Vice President, and Director of Operations, Asia and was eventually appointed President of ITT Sheraton of the Asia Pacific region.

From 1992 to 1999, Mr. Ko held the position of President, Asia Pacific for Pepsi-Cola International. During his tenure, he oversaw the soft drink company’s brand building and major expansion efforts into key emerging markets including China, Vietnam, Philippines and Thailand.

Mr. Ko is widely recognized for his knowledge and insight of business and culture in Asia Pacific, particularly as it relates to the tourism industry. He was voted as Regional Hotel Chief of the Year 2007 and again in 2008 by the readers of the Travel Weekly. He was the winner of the Visionary Leader of the Year in 2007, recipient of the 2007 Global Awards at the World Travel Mart in London and honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012 at the China Hotel Investment Conference in Shanghai. A native of Hong Kong and a naturalized Singapore citizen, Mr. Ko is fluent in Chinese and English. He received a B.A. in economics from the University of Massachusetts and a Masters of Business Administration from Suffolk University. He is also a non-practicing Certified Public Accountant (CPA) by the State Board of Accountancy in New Hampshire in the U.S. Mr. Ko is a director on the boards of Changi Airport Group, Samsonite International S.A, Formula One, Surbana International Consultants Holding Pte Ltd, and Merlin Entertainment Plc.
