Built on the former site of one of India's largest film studios, The Park Chennai augments the site's cinematic past with one of India's most design-forward hotels. An oversize movie screen greets guests in the light-filled lobby, dramatic curtains veil poolside beds on the rooftop, and the 173 guest rooms are enveloped with sensual, muted tones of silver and gold.
MADE BY ORIGINALS
It took a devoted art collector and design aficionado to revolutionize India’s hotel industry. Priya Paul, the chairperson of Apeejay Surrendra park Hotels in India, tapped into her strong artistic sensibility and educational experiences in the West to create India’s first and only collection of contemporary luxury boutique hotels. Studying at both Wellesley College and the Harvard Business School in the United States, Paul has won many hospitality awards, including honors for incorporating art and high-function design into her hotels.
ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN
The Park Chennai not only celebrates Indian movie culture, it feels as if it's a setting for a film. Indian artist Hemi Bawa welcomes guests with works that include a lotus flower theme set in a giant lobby that projects and ever-changing roster of films. Guest rooms are light and airy, boasting modern furniture arranged on beech wood floors. Many colorful film posters displayed throughout the hotel also recall Chennai’s moviemaking era.
