In a largely untouched eastern part of the Algarve, the Praia Verde Boutique Hotel lies snugly between expansive pine forests and white sandy beaches as far as the eye can see. Each of the 40 suites at Praia Verde features a separate living room and a kitchenette. À Terra restaurant serves delicious country food made with fresh seasonal ingredients, while the pool bar, with a wooden terrace under a canopy of greenery, is another place to relax over light meals and chilled cocktails. The hotel’s store offers an array of treats from the region, including local wines and salts from nearby mines.
MADE BY ORIGINALS
As the son of a gourmand and the grandson of a Lisbon hotelier, Miguel Guedes de Sousa has hospitality in his DNA. The CEO of Discover Hotel Management built upon his pedigree by attending the César Ritz hotel school in Switzerland, The Culinary Institute of America, and Cornell University, where he completed a management and food & beverage program. With a first-class culinary and hospitality education, Guedes de Sousa worked at hotels in Thailand, the Philippines, England, and Spain, among others, as well as traveling the world hunting white truffles, tasting fine wines, and running ultra-marathons in Morocco.
ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN
Fully aware of the beauty of the surrounding countryside, award-winning Portuguese architect Miguel Saraiva refurbished the original building with features to bring views to the forefront. The wooden-decked pool bar sits atop an elevated platform with wide views, while the slate-covered, low-rise building doesn’t impinge on the surrounding Algarve landscape. Portuguese interior designer Pureza Magalhães installed a market lobby that comprises reception, a bar, a restaurant, a store, workspaces, and an area designed for children.
