Adventure meets luxury at HUUS Hotel, set in a chalet-style building 1,111 meters above sea level in the Bernese Oberland, Switzerland. Having been reimagined by architect and designer Erik Nissen Johansen, the former Steigenberger Hotel comprises 136 guestrooms, fine restaurants, excellent wellness and conference facilities, and a lounge and “living room” complete with library and fireplace. Beyond the hotel’s walls are 250 kilometers of snow sports slopes and trails in the winter, and endless sporting opportunities in summer.
ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN
Housed in a chalet-style building built in the 1980s, the hotel is structurally typical of the area’s prevailing architectural landscape. However, Erik Nissen Johansen of Stylt Trampoli has removed walls, enlarged windows, added contemporary elements, and drawn focus to the natural surroundings through a thoughtful renovation. Much like the building’s form, the interior utilizes patterns, styles, and materials that are characterized by a mixture of the traditional and the contemporary.
