Surrounded by low hills and meaning “Horse Saddle Mountain,” Maanshan is a prefecture-level city situated in Anhui Province. The Four Points by Sheraton Maanshan is conveniently located in the Yushan District on Hongqi South Road. Don’t miss the famed Caishiji (Colourful Stones Rock). Just 7 kilometers to the southwest among pine and bamboo trees on the banks of the Yangtze River, this historic area is dotted with caves, riverside temples, and other centuries-old buildings. During the 8th century, the great Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai wrote many of his poems there. His tomb is found at the foot of Mount Qingshan. Nearby is a three-level memorial hall called Taibai, which houses stone inscriptions from past dynasties, as well as paintings and calligraphy works by illustrious artists.
At the spectacular Putang Natural Scenic Area, visitors can see bamboo forests, ancient trees, clear springs, and brooks, as well as several old and picturesque religious buildings. In the center of town, the beautiful tree-lined Yushan Lake and the scenic Nanhu Park are also worthy of a visit. Maanshan’s local cuisine is known for its crabs, herring, pickles, and rock-dried tea.
