Get out and explore one of north China’s most-visited cities. Take a ride aboard the renovated historic Tram No. 54, which stops at various tourist attractions. Marvel at the Jilin Provincial Museum’s nearly 100,000 relics, including calligraphy and paintings from various dynasties, as well as Gaogouli, Bohai, and Manchu cultural artifacts. Visit the clear waters, winding bridges, and pavilions in Nanhu Park, Changchun’s largest.
Situated 18 kilometers southeast of town, Jingyuetan National Forest Park is famous for its magnificent crescent-shaped lake and forests. It is also home to the Jingyuetan Ski Resort. More skiing can be found at the expansive Lianhuashan Ski Resort. Also worthy of a visit is the Nong’an Ancient Tower in Nong’an County. Believed to have been built between 983 and 1030, this 13-story Buddhist tower is almost 40 meters high.
Back in town, Changchun Film Century City is another top attraction. Offering many entertainment and recreation activities, it is China’s largest film studio and film recreation center. For a bit of shopping, head to New World Living Mall, the largest in northeast China. Located in the city center, it comprises five shopping malls and five streets featuring shops, restaurants, and entertainment facilities. Sample the local food, much of which is a fusion of Korean and Chinese cuisines. Traditional favorites include ginseng chicken, chicken cooked with Maotai wine, deer tail, steamed white fish, and sweetened red bean paste covered with snow.
