Nestled along the banks of the River Sabarmati in the state of Gujarat, and once the home of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel, Ahmedabad has a rich history that dates back to the 11th century. The Four Points by Sheraton Ahmedabad is conveniently located in the city centre, just opposite the Gujarat University Exhibition & Convention Centre, Ellis Bridge, and the Indian Institute of Management. The commercial district at Ashram Road is nearby, and the emerging commercial centre at S.G. Road, Satellite Road, and Drive-in Road is only six kilometres away. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (AMD) can be reached by car in 15 minutes.

While in India’s fifth-largest city, visit the quiet Sabarmati Ashram. This simple cottage is both a national monument and a small museum. A treasure trove of intricate designs, beautifully hand-woven fabrics, and exquisite artwork can be found at the Calico Museum of Textiles in the palatial Sarabhai House. Built over 50 years by Bhanubhai Shah, the Kite Museum’s colourful collection is another major attraction.

For a taste of serenity, visit the intricately carved white marble Jain Hathi Singh Temple that was built in 1850, or see the Akshardham Temple or the shaking minarets at the Sidi Bashir Mosque. Dada Harir Vav, built in 1501, is a noted city landmark. Constructed in the early 1400s by city founder Ahmed Shah, Bhadra Fort is also home the triple-arched gateway Teen Darwaja.

See the summer palace in the centre of Kankaria Lake and watch a musical fountain show. Experience more recreational fun at the popular Science City. Purchase indigenous local handicrafts, including traditional hand-embroidered and dyed clothing, at Law Garden. Savour delightful vegetarian cuisine, and be sure to try Ahmedabad’s famous ice cream.
