Rated 4 out of 5 by HarryF Great hotel in good location
Enjoy staying at hotel when in Kingston. The hotel is currently undergoing renovations so that is why I did not give a 5 rating.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Impressed2012 Great staff!
I was served by a guy named Luke. He was probably one of the most helpful, efficient and hospitable people I've ever encountered in a hotel. I am a business traveller so I usually use the hotel simply for the bed and a bit of TV, but Luke makes suggestions about hotel facilities and the city that makes the stay enjoyable. The staff is what makes me come back again and again. keep up the good work!

At time of booking, called hotel directly then was put through to a central reservation line, which the person did not know much about the hotel and its procedures. Could not answer my questions. Then upon arrival, was told the pool area was closed for renovations. That was one of the reasons we booked this hotel. I could have been told that at reservation time. As well, we were then notified that we had to pay for parking, which again I could have been informed about at time of booking. The hotel was comfortable, room was good but there needs to be not as much secrecy but more customer service.

I was not expecting the hotel to be in the middle of renovations. Nobody to me this on the phoe when we booked and my kids where expecting to swim a liitle. Thie rooms should have been discounted due to the renovations. i was aslo expecting free parking for guests and was not told the parking was $14.00. Over all i felt i was taken advantage of and the company was not very forthcoming when i booked the rooms. My volleyball team stayed here and they were very dissappointed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Ghouls Wedding day
This hotel was not ready for the wedding that was planned in advance. The lobby was to be completed by the date of the wedding and it was not ready. We were on the 7th floor and due to the long wait for the elevator, as one was down, we used the stairs, however once we got to the bottom level there was no way out, the house keeper had to show us how to get out. There was no directions or signs to the wedding, it was very disorganized. When we arrived at the hotel our room was not ready, they knew we were coming for a wedding at 3:30, they told us the room would be ready at 3pm, which they say is normal check in time, they should have informed us of that when we reserved. The bed in the room was not attached to the head board so when you sat on the end of the bed it flipped up, amusing, but not acceptable. The elevators had writing on the walls and there was no ATM at the hotel. I would not recommend anyone have a wedding or any other function here.

We stayed at this hotel for a special family week-end away. The staff at the counter was professional and polite, all went well with check in. The building itself seemed somehow really worn down, the carpet was in terrible shape. The pool and hot tub were broken during our stay, which was a huge deal. This was the most important feature my kids were looking forward too. The beds were comfortable, nice sheets and so on. There was an old sheet of paper in the room outlining the room service options with a smear of ketchup on the back. This place generally feels like the Sheraton put some nice comforters on the bed and then walked away. There was a foul argument in the hallway overnight. We would stay elsewhere next time.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Mike97 My evening stay.
I am sorry to say that I was completely disappointed with my stay at your hotel. I was not told ahead of time that your hotel was under renovations and we were visiting town for a volleyball tournament. All the boys were looking forward to an evening swim after a long drive and again we were not told ahead of time that the pool was unavailable. We were also not told ahead of time of your parking and that there was additional cost. Also due to the renovations, we were unable to access the elevator at our parking level and had to carry our luggage down a flight of stairs to access the elevator. Finally upon leaving, the warning of the floors unavailable on the elevator had been removed leaving me to believe we could access P1 only to have the doors open and be all taped off and not able to exit the elevator. I hope your renovation goes well, but in the meantime, I would advise you tell your potential guests of the inconveniences, I experienced. Thank you.

Rated 2 out of 5 by KtownGuy No warning of pool closure and renovations
Dear Mr. Holmes,
I emailed you twice before posting this review, but have not recieved a response.
I booked a stay for New Year's Eve at your hotel through SPG.com. The most important feature was the pool for my kids. Through SPG there was no indication that the hotel was under renovations and that the pool was closed. My confirmation and reservation gave no indication.
We checked the hotel website the day before and clicked on pool and facilities and there was no note.
It was very disapointing to arrive and see the hotel under construction and the pool closed. The hotel smelled like cigarettes at times as well, perhaps from construction workers.
The desk person was very apologetic. I asked if your hotel had made arrangements with another hotel for pool use and he said no. In the past, other Starwood hotels I have stayed at made arrangements in this situation.
It was too late for us to switch hotels.
I checked your hotel website again on January 1, 2014. On the left there is a small note about the pool. This should be linked to the facilities page and be bolded or as a banner. The best option is to have a pop up show when anyone goes on your website and have a short note about construction. This way all potential guests are alerted.
The SPG site usually sends a pop up if you are booking at a hotel under construction. It does not for yours. You need to click on special conditions. There is no reason why one would do this, but if you do, the note says the pool is closed only until Nov. 31, 2013.
I reccomend that you update your website with a pop up stating the conditions and have SPG do the same.
IThis is my first negative review on any hotel site. I do not like how hard it is to remove a review, particularly ones without merit. This is not fair to hotels and restaurants. I rarely complain and always alert the Manager first to see if the problem can be fixed for future guests and to see if a reasonable refund or points bonus can be given. I am from Kingston and do not want a poor review to harm a downtown Kingston business. Nonethelss, I have emailed you twice with no response.
Thanks for your response.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Jussi75 Expectations met on a award stay
We stayed at this hotel on an award stay on our way from Boston to Toronto. This was our first stay in a Four Points hotel and it met the expectations. The only problem was a very noisy party in the room next to ours. At the check out the front desk promised to comp the parking for the inconvenience which was a very nice gesture, although I'm still waiting for the final confirmation on this since my credit card is showing the charge.

POOL WAS CLOSED WHICH SHOULD OF BEEN POSTED ON THE WEBSITE.

Saturday Dec 22 2013 had freezing rain through much of eastern Ontario and the GTA. We were heading to Ottawa with a planned overnight stay in Kingston. Because the storm we were late arriving and much of Kingston was without power. The hotel had power and we got into the underground parking. But elevators to the lobby were not working. Up the stairs to the front desk and check-in. We discover the hotel is under renovation and you must take more stairs to the 2nd floor to get an elevator. The room is great and we are very tired. We call for room service and find that the restaurant is under renovation as well, therefore no room service. We had some gin and tonic in our bag so I went looking for ice. 2 of 3 ice machines were out of service. We left the next day very disappointed with the Four Points by Sheraton in Kingston. We have stayed there many times and always enjoyed the stay. Not this trip. Regular rates, most services and amenities not available.

Nice location. Staff pleasant, although not outgoing.
I have stayed in a few Four Points and found them to be quite nice but this hotel was most disappointing. Tired, dreary, bland decor, felt like I was staying in a hospital room! Or perhaps a college dorm circa 1980 that had never been redone? Room was damp and at one point had been smoked in. Perhaps we were on what used to be a smoking floor. Would have asked to be moved but we were busy. If our stay was longer than 1 night would have found an alternate hotel.
No Wi-Fi? No fridge or microwave? Noisy A/C. Our room was clean enough but very tired and worn looking. Definitely in need of more than just a minor makeover.
We used SPG points to book this so it was low cost for us but I would have been furious had I paid the normal rate. A quick check revealed they charge usually 180$-200$ per night on weekends for our room. Ludicrous! I would suggest avoiding this one. Certainly not what we expected.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Mfputer This is not a Category 4 hotel
The hotel was ok and the staff was pleasant, however this is not a category 4 hotel. At the most it is a category 3 or even a 2. Do no waste 10000 points staying at this hotel.
The rooms are newly renovated; poorly renovated and basic. The hallways are noisy and with rooms with adjoining doors you can easily hear your neighbours

Great Hotel, good location , friendly staff,
unfortunately the pool was closed, had I known I would have stayed elsewhere.
I have young children and we choose this hotel for that reason. I feel that we should have been notified ( e-mail is very easy) and given the option. I understand that things happen in life. Thanks

Rated 5 out of 5 by Partitura Best hotel in Kingston
My top choice for a stay in Kingston for many years now. Only drawback is availability when a conference comes to town. I had to suddenly stay longer, and they couldn't accommodate me, but did their best.
Parking is an issue with a conference, and is not available sometimes, but you might get charged.

This hotel is well located in downtown Kingston, close to the waterfront, restaurants and shopping.
Front desk staff are friendly and accomodating. The rooms are very comfortable and in general the hotel is quite quiet. The restaurant serves high quality food.
No better place to stay in Kingston.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Me1234 Good location
We had a nice stay. Room was clean and tidy. Probably not as "fancy" as we had expected it to be, but the location was really great. We were able to walk around old Kingston at night knowing that the hotel was just steps away when we decided to end our days activities.
One huge problem with the room was the fact that there was no fan in the bathroom to eliminate steam after showering. We also found the air conditioning unit to be noisy and it kept us awake when it would turn on throughout the night.
Need more kleenex in the room, not just in the bathroom. We also were disappointed that there was not a small fridge in the room because we were travelling and had our juice and pop with us. Also, we had to go to another floor searching for an ice machine for our cooler. Not convenient.
The pool and workout room were not as good as we expected, so we didn't use those. Overall, the location is the selling feature for this hotel. If that's what you are looking for, you'll be happy. If you want more of a luxurious stay, book somewhere else.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Paul123 Great location, facilities could use some work.
The location and staff at this hotel are great. The rooms themselves, however, need some improvement. Specifically,
- I found that the pillows provided are too thin. I needed 3 pillows to match the one I use at home.
- The rooms are very poorly lit. There seemed to be these "dark spots" that were always around even when all the lights were on. I kept looking for more lamps or light switches. The lighting used doesn't brighten up the room enough.
- While not part of the room, I'd have the same comment about the hallways- way too dark.
Overall, though, when you consider the location and the staff I'd recommend this hotel for shorter stays.

The room was great. Reception was about as brusque as it could be without actually being rude. No asking if we needed a map, if we knew the area, nothing. Basically, credit card, here are you keys.
The pool was a disaster. The liner had come off and been pulled down at two of the four rounded corners and there was a lot of water under the liner. We book hotels based on a pool being available as that is a huge draw for my children. The hot tub was out of service and the dirty towel hamper was overflowing and spilling onto the floor. Upon telling reception - they sounded suprised about the pool?? It surely didn't happen overnight.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Seasonedtraveler64 Starting to look tired
I can always tell when a hotel is getting tired when you see marks on the walls in the hallways. This is a sign that standards are starting to slip. From the lobby to our hotel floor I could see the marks and dirt on the walls. A good hotel stays on top of these things so that guests don't notice. This to me is a reflection of the hotel standards. Our room was clean but our shower was not good. The grout in several tiles was discoloured or had been poorly repaired. I stay in five to seven hotels every year and the ones that are the best are the ones who are always staying on top of every little detail. I would stay there again but will voice my concerns immediately.

This is NOT even close to a category 4 Starwood hotel! I used 10,000 points for this place and am appalled. Not sure how you guys figured this is a category 4........maybe when all renovations are completed and even then I would question it??

Rated 5 out of 5 by Ruth76 Most comfortable and pleasant hotel
We have stayed at the Sheraton Four Points for many years. Quiet clean, well appointed rooms, nice views, with very comfortable beds and fine bathroom - all excellent, make this hotel our home away from home when we regularly visit our son and family near Kingston. The a la carte breakfast is well-prepared and a notable improvement from past years. Staff are always most courteous and helpful. We travel frequently and having a good night's sleep in a spacious, clean, quiet room with excellent beds as in the Four Points by Sheraton Kingston is our reason for returning year after year.

I have stayed at this hotel several times. While they finally have wifi in the rooms, it does not work very well and had to delete all browsing history before I could connect my IPad and even then it would not stay connected. The housekeeping was also lacking as a significant amount of last guest's hair on bathroom floor and balcony glass so dirty you could barely see through it. Despite having 2 guests, housekeeping only provided one bottle of water each day. The location is great and the only StArwood Hotel in Kingston so I will stay again, but hope they address the cleanliness and wifi issues.

Rated 2 out of 5 by DisappointedMom Shower extra?
I've stayed before and the rooms are lovely. BUT with a timeline to meet there was no water coming out of the shower!! I called and asst mgr had no idea what was going on. Discovered boiler to part of hotel was under repairs...at 945 am on a Wednesday morning. No solution offeredr. I suggested possibly to use the shower in the pool area - yes water there...but new wall dispensers in the room mean no portable toiletries. Public shower with foam wash and no shampoo, washcloth or conditioner. I asked about possibly going to another room in the hotel that had hot water to shower but was told NO and offered a 25 percent discount. NOT impressed this time, No time to argue, had to check out....yes, I'm venting.
