The staff went above and beyond to help out. They were very courteous and helpful. The rooms were nice. A little old but most of the hotels in New Orleans are so that was expected.

First and foremost, you expect a clean bed and hot water for a shower. I received the latter but not the former. I was out of the room at 8 a.m. and returned at 9 p.m. to find the bed not made and the towels not changed. The gentleman at the front desk apologized and indicated he could have someone to the room in 10 minutes to clean it. I told him to forget it and just switch my status to green and award me the Starwood points. But what I would have expected was this not to have happened in the first place.
Speaking of clean--there were two pieces of black something on the bathroom floor when I checked in and no telling how long they had been there. I touched them and thy were loose so they should have been swept up.
In terms of the room: (1) The bed is comfortable for 1 person. A king bed has a queen or full size feather bed so it would be uncomfortable laying on the edges. (2) The bathroom paint is about the quality I would get if I asked my kids to paint--paint on the make-up mirror and cord, not cut-in properly in the corners. (3) the carpet behind the entry door doesn't go all the way to the wall.

This hotel is modern and that attracted me the first time and my first visit was great, however this visit was terrible. The number of kids partying in the hotel was unbelieveable. The noise and slamming of doors all night long was unbearable. The next morning we walked out of our room and then were loked out and could not get back in. The fron desk told gave us new keys and said if that if the keys did not work the battery in the door might be dead. So I went up, could not get in, they sent someone up and they said that i accidentally hit the deadlock and they would have to get someone to come and unlock it while I was out. I was gone for 6 hours, got back and it still was not unlocked. So we waited and it was not even the dead bolt, it was the battery. We had room service for breakfast and and put the tray out the door and it sat there all day, then some treid coming into our room that afternoon while we were lseeping to pick it up. It was just ridiciulous. Then the noise started again. I know that will not print this but you need to know that you need better service and to possiblly control your guests.

While the hotel is aging, it is still a very nice place to stay. The location is wonderful and more than anything, the staff is excellent. We would stay again.

The bath room had hair on the floor, dust all along the base boards and the carpet as I walk on it my feet turn black. I don't think I would stay here again.

Spent the Labor Day long weekend with a few friends in N.O. and stayed in W.
Great location - 15-20 min walk to French Quarter - away from the Bourbon Street area but still within walkable reach. Hotel concierge told us that it is very safe to walk at late night in that area too, which we did and felt quite safe.
Average facilities - I've stayed in many W around the world - I would rate the hardware facility at W New Orleans average
Plus: common area facilities modern/chic and quite spacious considering the library lounge area. The rooftop pool area is small but we enjoyed playing some card game at one of the curtained lounge chairs areas.
Minus: room interior deco a bit worn even though I like the window design with a colonial touch.
Service ok but not perfect - when I received the folio, there was a mysterious minibar charge which I didn't consume - had to call the hotel to verify - turned out it was not charged to my cc but a mistake on the bill.
SPG recognition so so - did get coupon to buffet breakfast (which is only available on Sunday), but did not get room upgrade - possible due to high demand during Labor Day weekend.

The W was in a great location and the rooms were nice. The DVD player was a special nice touch although I didn't use it. So was the (partially) free water.

My whole experience with the W was riddled with problems. While the staff is very friendly and helpful, when I checked in there was only one person working the counter on a Friday night, and it took them more then 15 minutes to check in the person in front of me. I experienced the same wait on Saturday when I went to replace a key card that had gone bad. I did come into the room to an un-flushed toilet, an while the room had been cleaned, the construction was down right poor. The wall paper in the bathroom (Rm 2010) is peeling in several spots, The wall socket plates where ancient yellow plastic that was all crudded up and clearly needed replacing, the paint in the bathroom was not done well,painting over tile grout at the wall/shower transition resulting in sloppy lines. I wanted to do laundry there but the price was so outrageous I would be uncomfortable even billing it to a client, something like 70$ for 2 days worth of laundry, less then 5lbs. The location is great there, but certainly not worth the money, I'm in a hotel for 1/4 the price with none of those problems. To top it off I got billed for a first aid kit after leaving the hotel?!?

Stayed at the W for 1 night and loved this hotel! The location couldn't be any better! (You literally walk out the doors of the hotel and are looking at Harrah's Casino!) The hotel itself is very modern, ie. sweat- gym, wet-pool, etc. The room itself was very clean, needed some updating, but I was informed that they where in the process of it right now, so I can't wait to see the end results! The bed was super comfy and the room was a decent size with a decent view. My only complaints- the charge for wireless in the rooms is outrageous, 14.95/night. Though you can get free wireless in the lobby, it's still a disappointment considering you pay over 100 for the room. There was just one person at the front desk I had an issue with, everyone else was very accommodating. I felt like I was being judged by her. She treated me like some vagabond off the street, gave me a business card, and kept looking at the front door. I flashed my room key and she looked surprised, I found it very insulting. And there is not a fitted sheet on the bed which I find kind of gross. I found myself waking up on the mattress. Otherwise, amazing hotel and cannot wait to return!

The hotel was excellent for the most part, but one thing that was EXTREMELY disappointing was that the hotel says that it's gym (called SWEAT) was open 24 hours. In fact it was not, and the room key card could only access it during the regular pool hour times after 6am. That was annoying because I am an early riser and everyday that I wanted to use the gym at 5am, I had to spend 20 min or so negotiating with the front desk and having someone meet me at the gym, and then once I was there, I couldn't go in and out at will as I typically like to do. That added a half hour to my day very early in the morning and was extremely constraining. If they say 24 hours, they should actually make it 24 hours with the room key. There were loud neighbors next to me at 4am once morning, though I suppose this is nothing the hotel can control maybe they can get more sound-proofing for rooms. Othrwise, the stay was excellent. -- I liked the Wheels feature (though I didn't use it); the decor was lovely as expected, and the room itself was comfortable and clean. Also, free internet access for gold members was GREAT!! Good job on the room -- bad job on the fitness center access!
