WHO WE ARE - OUR PAST

A brief history
Founded by Air France in 1972, with our first hotel, Le Méridien Etoile in Paris, Le Méridien was created to share and extend the international experience. Inspired by the word “Meridian,” the line encircling the earth, we opened, seeking to infuse the brand with the romance of travel, the excitement of supersonic speed, the thrill of innovation, optimism and modern design.

In 1994 Air France sold Le Méridien and in November 2005 we were acquired by Starwood. We have since celebrated a range of new openings in 2006 from Le Méridien St Juliens, Malta; Le Méridien San Francisco; Le Méridien Shanghai; Le Méridien Lav in Split, Croatia; to Le Méridien Ra, in Tarragona, Spain.

This is just the beginning – our future continues brighten with 16 new hotel openings slated to unfold over the next 3 years.
