Joseph II of Hapsburg Lorraine, a descendant of the father of Marie-Antoinette, is credited with rebuilding the glorious residence, but not until the 1860 reign of the great “royal builder,” King Leopold II, did the palace become a masterpiece of Louis XVI architecture and one of the most beautiful palaces in the world.
