Situated on the southern plain of the Yellow River in central China, Zhengzhou is the capital of Henan Province, and a historically-rich city that dates back to the Shang Dynasty some 3,600 years ago. Strategically located in the city centre, Le Méridien Zhengzhou is at the intersection of Zhongzhou Avenue and Zhengbian Road. Additionally, Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport (CGO) is just a 30-minute drive away.
Steeped in history, Zhengzhou provides endless cultural experiences and sights, including the nearby Shang City Ruins. In addition to the millennia-old city wall, visitors can also view exhibits showcasing historic bronzeware, stoneware, jade carvings, ceramics, wells, and tombs. Another intriguing glimpse into the past can be seen at the Henan Museum. As one of China’s oldest museums, it contains historical relics and prehistoric artefacts. Experience Mount Song, which is situated about 90 kilometres southwest of Zhengzhou. This UNESCO World Heritage Site and sacred Taoist mountain is filled with religious structures, including the Shaolin Temple, one of China’s most important Buddhist shrines, and an ancient Chinese kung-fu (martial arts) centre. At Mount Song, one can also view the Pagoda Forest and its more than 240 tomb pagodas. Also engaging are the ancient Songyang Academy and the Astronomical Observatory.
For an enriching taste of nature, visit the Yellow River Scenic Area in Zhengzhou. Located about 30 kilometres northwest of Zhengzhou along the Yellow River, this picturesque area is home to verdant land, clear waters, pavilions, and centuries-old statues. For a cultivated dose of modernity, Er’ Qi Square in the city centre is Zhengzhou’s busiest commercial area, with many department stores and restaurants offering an array of local cuisine. On the square is the Er’ Qi Memorial Tower, which commemorates a demonstration that occurred on February 7, 1923. The action continues just a few kilometres from the hotel at the Zhengzhou Century Amusement Park, which features 30 rides, including China’s longest roller coaster.
