The moment you walk along the gray marble walkway into the restaurant and stand under the massive aquarium archway teeming with thousands of live fish, you realise that you are about to enjoy an unforgettable evening.
Floor-to-ceiling windows frame views of People’s Square like artwork—creating a vibrant backdrop for the room’s understated elegance. Gleaming mahogany panels and armchairs create a bold juxtaposition to crisp white table linens, crimson pillars and sparkling crystal chandeliers. In a delightful nod to the Asian theme, each table napkin is folded in the shape of a lotus blossom. In addition to the spectacular main dining room, Ai Mei also offers 19 private dining rooms that host between 10 and 40 guests—each uniquely decorated with different contemporary artwork and traditional Chinese elements.
Head Chef Peter Cheung draws on his Chinese background to deliver an exquisite menu of authentic Cantonese, Sichuanese and Shanghainese delicacies. Sample the fiery flavour of his wok-fried beef tenderloin with kale and black pepper. Delight in the sweet and savoury balance of honey glazed chicken with crispy ginger. Or tap into your adventurous side by trying Stewed Frogs with chili in a traditional clay pot. For dim sum enthusiasts, steamed beef dumplings with goose liver and steamed pork dumplings with fresh water crab are not to be missed. To encourage experimentation, Chef Cheung also offers a dim sum selection menu on weekend.
