The Phuket Trickeye 3D Museum is an interactive art centre located in historic Phuket Town, once the epicentre of trade and culture on Phuket. Hundreds of three-dimensional artworks by local and foreign artists are housed in this extraordinary 3,000-square-metre building, which was originally built as a movie theatre.
The interactive artworks were mainly inspired by the French trompe-l’oeil technique, which employs realistic imagery to create the optical illusion of three dimensions. For example, Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa and Van Gogh’s self-portrait and Starry Night are presented in three-dimensional parody.
The museum is also an ideal starting point for a fascinating exploration of Phuket Town’s streets that are home to 100-year-old shop-houses of Sino-Portuguese architecture.
