Rated 5 out of 5 by The hotel is conveniently located near MIT. I loved my stay at the Meridien. The room was very comfortable. The Staff was very attentive. The food in the restaurant was only fair. The Waiters were great. Thought there were many towels in the bathroom I would up grade the quality of the towels. Overall I would return and I would recommend the hotel. June 30, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fantastic hotelin Cambridge, MA Excellent hotel with EXCELLENT hotel staff! Restaurant employees need replacement if not extensive retraining, at best. Very unresponsive, eye contact at first only to be ignored by them looking away immediately thereafter. Coffee urns outside the restaurant were out of coffee all three of my mornings there. Somebody needs to be in charge and supervise. Food, at breakfast and dinner did not meet my expectation at all in taste, presentation, temperature etc. At least the restaurant was clean. Rated 1 out of 5 by th toilet challenge Our toilet overflowed. We literally could not use the room in the morning. When I told the man at the desk he called it a "toilet challenge." He said that we DID spend the night there. He said the manager would get in touch with me via e-mail which she never did. Rather than refunding my money for a terrible stay, I learned a new term: toilet challenge. June 24, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Location is all they have going for them here It is an unfortunately long list drawbacks that I have taken away from my very short stay here. At checkin, I was given the least personal greeting I've ever received at any SPG hotel: "Name?" Yes, that's it. Followed by "elevators are behind you." This was really shocking, almost as if I was bothering them to check me in. The next day I needed to get a taxi and I needed to pay with a card. When I asked the front desk to help me get a taxi that will accept a credit card, the gal replied, they don't usually take cards here. Forgive me, but I didn't ask you IF the cabs already parked outside took cards - I had already been out there and found that out myself. I asked you to help me, but clearly I was again bothering her to stop just standing around and make any effort at all to provide a guest with what he was asking. Later that same night, I had a horrendous experience with the restaurant service. After ordering a drink and soup, my bartender left and the only guy remaining was so busy that after 45 minutes of waiting for someone to check back, I decided to walk out. I went to the front desk to request them to order room service for me since the restaurant was too busy to serve me, even though I was sitting at the bar. The gal at the desk just looked at me until I spoke - no "how can I help you?" and no sign of s smile on her face. I could tell I was inconveniencing her by raising my issue. She proceeded to act as though I was making up a story and called the restaurant to see what was going on. No apology for my trouble or inconvenience. I actually felt like she thought I was crazy. I ended up going back in and ordering an entree, and despite the repeated apologies from the waiter, I have to say I was pretty surprised to not hear from a manager or see any portion of the bill reduced. This place is ridiculous! I complained via Twitter to SPG and was told I should hear from the manager on duty. I received no phone call that evening nor did I receive any note or call the following morning. In short, I tend to give second chances, but this has been quite a string of poor service from the front desk, to the restaurant, to management's lack of attempt at any sort of service recovery. This has been an utterly abysmal hotel experience. April 2, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Noisy a/c We booked the Bosworth suite specifically to have the fold out couch. Couch was so uncomfortable as a bed, the floor was the preferred option. A/c so loud it woke all 3 of us up every time it went on, or off. Pluses: spacious room, great windows, excellent location and pricing. Until the A/c is fixed, we will probably stay somewhere else. Rated 1 out of 5 by Worst hotel I have every stayed at 2nd stay, only because it's near MIT. Paper-thin walls; I was woken frequently during the night--could hear EVERYTHING, everywhere. In-room coffee pot water well was dirty; had to clean it myself. Temperature controls were off kilter; needed repair. Had dinner at Sidney's restaurant in the hotel. Ordered petit filet with asparagus--the meat was like shoe leather. I was hoping for a better experience this trip, but it did not materialize. Cross this hotel OFF your list! April 1, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Always a pleasant stay Have stayed here multiple times due to having a child at MIT. The staff has always been friendly and pleasant to deal with. The rooms are large and very comfortable. Being right next to Star Market is very nice. Things to be aware of: 1) Fridge in room is stuffed with items that you can't even move without being charged - it would be very nice if one could put something in the fridge of ones' own, 2) Nice workout gym but no sauna, pool, etc. 3) It is a bit of a walk to Newbury Street in Boston (not that we haven't done it multiple times), 4) Not much in the way of shops in the area of the hotel but there are some nice restaurants. Rated 4 out of 5 by Room 803 had noisy a/c, up all night I have stayed at this hotel many times and always loved it. However, the a/c cycling on and off kept me awake until I finally turned it off and then was very hot. I did tell the front desk the next morning. Otherwise, great hotel. June 23, 2014

Rated 3 out of 5 by Showing its age I've stayed at this hotel several times but was surprised to see how it has aged during my most recent visit in April 2013. The mattress was lumpy, the minibar was half empty and the marble topped desk and table had permanent rings. The wall covering in the elevators was torn and the service in the restaurant was extremely slow and inattentive. In addition, the restaurant filled with smoke during lunch to the point where they opened exterior doors but would not provide an explanation. They did, however, comp our lunch. The property is inching towards seediness and needs a rehab. The wait staff in the restaurant desperately need training. April 16, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Going downhill fast The past 8 years we have stayed at this hotel 7 times visiting our daughter in Cambridge. This visit was her graduation from Boston U with her PhD. Our experience was always very positive before this visit. The restaurant dining was terrible as the food was almost inedible--oatmeal watery, rock shrimp drowning in chili pepper, coffee weak and tasteless. Maintenance was awful--TV movies wouldn't play and telephone wouldn't work in my father-in-laws room 549 and was not fixed for the 3 days he stayed there, smoke detectors chirping in the hallway and in our room as we were packing to checkout(change the batteries), room was not cleaned the first day because someone listed our room as the "green option" when I rejected this at checkin. In short, I would not stay at this hotel agin and would encourage SPG to require better operation. Oh, and we couldn't print our boarding passes because all 3 downstair computers would not work with the printer during the 4 days we stayed there, Insult to injury. May 20, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Better than expected I'm an airline employee who stays in hotels weekly in the US And overseas. This is one of the cleanest hotels I have stayed in. The staff was extremely polite and the rooms were large, modern and very clean. Cambridge is a very nice area with many local restaurants in the area. We attended the Red Sox game and it was a short walk to fenway. Cab fare back was only $10. Indoor parking cost only $25 for 24 hrs and its attached to the hotel. Can't wait to visit again! Rated 5 out of 5 by Another Great Visit This was my second stay with my son to visit MIT and Harvard. Another wonderful stay. The front desk were wonderful, helping me with airline boarding passes, recommending the grocery store, etc. The wait staff at Sydney's Grille couldn't do enough for us. Rated 4 out of 5 by Decent Option, Good Location Although I was conducting business in Boston, I found that my other SPG choices in the Back Bay area were fully booked, so decided to try the Meridien. It’s very conveniently located to access the Back Bay area of Boston, and you get the student area feel due to its proximity to MIT. There is also a supermarket in the same building and a few restaurants options within a 5 minute walk. Check in was a breeze, and I was upgraded to a “suite” which actually just felt like a normal bedroom with a tiny annex where the bed was found. It was a corner room and both sides faced a parking lot. The room was comfortable nevertheless, and I had a very good night’s sleep once I turned off the noisy aircon. I would stay again. Rated 3 out of 5 by Disappointed A beautiful property that just disappoints. In an effort to save money, rooms do not have heat or ac turned on prior to a guests stay. Middle of the summer, 95 outside and my room won't cool down below 73 bc the thermostat won't allow the guest to turn ac below a certain temp or to turn fan above low. Middle of winter and the room is in the mid 60s when you arrive. Crazy. And then the restaurant.. Service at its worst. Never a hostess to greet you. Slow service when you can get it. Nothing like standing at the omelette station only to get ignored because the same chef cooks the omelette to order for the buffet as well as orders sent in by the wait staff. I am DONE with this property. If I wanted crappy service I can pay less elsewhere. February 23, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Amazing Everything is grand about this property: stunningly clean interiors, great lobby, superb location, wonderful staff friendliness, modern sleek building, free WiFi in guest rooms, 2 great restaurants, Red Line Central station just 3 blocks away, MIT is adjacent, Star Market (a Shaw's) is in same building, very safe area, Green St Garage 2 blocks away for cheaper but clean safe parking, Le Meridien-level rooms, snazzy lobby, rooftop garden is often forgotten but amazingly great, everything is just perfect. Rated 5 out of 5 by Beautiful Hotel My husband and I stayed here for a little weekend getaway and were pleasantly surprised. The property is beautiful and just a short ride over to Boston. We were worried it may not be easy to get a cab over, but were happy to find cabbies lined up waiting for us! There was also a lot to do within walking distance in Cambridge as well. Overall, I'd stay here again and recommend it to others! August 1, 2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by cable tv problems My toilet got stopped up and room smelled for a while thereafter...i am not accustom to that...then the nite of the big basketball game between the spurs and thunder the cable could not access TNT...was told to go to the bar to watch...asked for a complimentary beer or something since it wasnt as comfortable watching in bar...got peanuts....other than that quite nice?? Rated 5 out of 5 by Perfect stay The welcome staff was so welcoming and the room is appointed very nicely. The only thing I wish was a better were the bathrooms. They were a little dated. However, you can't beat such friendly staff and comfortable beds! Had a great breakfast the next morning too in my room. August 16, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great stay I recently stayed 8 nights at this hotel and would highly reccommend it; the first 4 nights were for business and the last 4 to explore the city with my family. After asking whether the hotel had a club level for a quick breakfast prior to going to work, the front desk replied "no" but then subsequently provided me with breakfast buffet coupons for each morning of my stay, slipped underneath the door of my room. Very generous! When my parents checked in, the front desk placed their room near mine on the SPG floor. The staff, in particular at the Sidney lounge, was polite and courteous. Ahmed, the line cook, even made me pancakes for breakfast (which was off the buffet menu). Great stay overall! August 21, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Sydney restaurant I really do not want to say bad things for any SPG hotels since I have traveled global and stay SPG hotels 20 - 50 nights a year for last 12 years. I am a life time gold at this moment. On 25th of May in the morning, we went to Sydney restaurant we handed a manager the Platinum case and free breakfast coupon, some tables were opened but they were not ready so he asked us to sit the waiting area to sit. We waited more than 5 min and I stood up and went to see him, he loudly told me and my family ''SIT and WAIT''. Another few minutes later, finally we got table. Only my son ordered 2 eggs which was not included in free continental breakfast. But a waiter charged us 2 buffet fees, I asked him ''why did you charge us 2 buffet even my son ate only 2 eggs which is less than $5 and my wife had only fruits which is within free continental breakfast. He replied ''I thought you 2 guys ate buffet'', I asked him '' so basically you just through numbers and enter 2 buffet and charge us'', he immediately replied ''No, no... I thought you 2 ate buffet..'' He talked to the manager who asked us to wait in the beggining and changed the bill ( of course) and charged us only eggs fee. There were no confusion but obviously they tried to charge us more than we supposed to. Next day, the manager was different and he seems very nice but the waiter was the same, my wife and I did not touch any foods since we do not want to have another arguments with the waiter. So we ordered 2 eggs for my son and left. Seriously, the manager on 25th (pretty big guy) and the waiter makes people scared and cannot believe they are in SPG hotel. Either they fix the attitude or leave. Otherwise, I and surely other SPG members will be disappointed. May 27, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Paper thin adjacent room door We stayed here last weekend and had a room with a connecting door to the adjacent room and we could hear everything in the other room. They weren't being loud in the other room, but you could hear everything perfectly. It was too late in the night to change rooms. If it wasn't for the ridiculously loud air conditioner we would've never fallen back asleep. We mentioned our complaints when checking out the next morning at the front desk and they said "oh sorry to hear that", and thats all. Also our room was missing an ironing board. We were going to a wedding and needed one. Called and made the request and the front desk said one would be right up. We never saw the ironing board. Room was clean and bed was very comfy. Difficult to even print a document - needed multiple interactions with hotel desk staff in order to finally succeed in printing out my doc. Faxing was also hit or miss. Security setting on hotel computers prevented my opening up attachments on email. Overall a big hassle. May 19, 2014

I asked about special amenities for Platinum members and the guy checking me in said they had none at this hotel. He then mentioned "by they upgraded you to a suite", but when I got to the room I found it was not - very weird. The room was nicely designed, but pretty dated. Location is great, though. When I asked in the morning again about Platinum amenities the woman at the front desk said she'd be happy to deduct $10 from my breakfast charge. I later found out she "redeemed" my standard welcome points award for that. February 28, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Room not up to par but service and breakfast excellent Our third stay in this hotel. Junior suite was really just a large room. Clearly in need of updating and refurbishing (peeling wallpaper, nicks and dents, dated technology, small bathroom with poor lighting). TV could not be easily seen from the bed - why doesn't a junior suite have two TVs? Couch was stained and shabby. View was nice and bed was very comfortable. Desk was small and lost too much area to the coffee service and intrusive minibar food items. Fridge was minibar only and no room for our water. Since few people order the overpriced snacks (the hotel is connected to a Shaw's grocery for heavens sake!) why not just remove these? Breakfast was excellent and exceeded my expectations. Great service, GREAT coffee, ample and high quality food. May 5, 2014
