This is both review and thank you note. I just completed my second stay at the Le Meridien Douala. The second stay confirmed my satisfaction experienced during the first. I am a regular traveler to Africa. The quality of this hotel is clearly above many competitors. Things that often fail in other hotels - power, Internet access, locks and keys, hot water - all worked flawlessly here. The pool area was delightful, and restaurant breakfasts even appealed to a strict vegetarian. The airport shuttle was reliable and comfortable with personal meeting. My rooms were both always quiet. For would-be fitness center users: the fitness club is very good, but is about 3km distant.
All good, but I have saved the best for last: the people. I was treated very well by any standard. My poor French was tolerated and my English preference accommodated.

I have srtayed on many occasions at Le Meridien and as alway find the staff to be extremely helpful and friendly especially the staff at the Reception and your SPG representative.
My only comments are that I would like to see a gym being installed as well as a change to the food menu at the restaurant next to the pool.
I thoroughlly enjoy coming and will return!

Just one cloud on your horizon. You have to get on with the rest of the world and forbid smoking on your property.
As a general rule the smokers have polluted your hotel at every level. As we enter the lobby the stench of cigarette from the bar can be smell in the lobby. Even in the rooms reserved for non-smoker we can be poisoned by the smell of cigarette.
And, in the rainy season the Madiba restaurant is impossible to enjoy due to the number of smokers under roof. The patio area is always invaded by smokers so going to the Madiba requires us to hold our breath.
There is no escape to this calamity in the Meridian hotel. Please try to implement non- smoking policies like every other Starwood residence in the civilized world.

I wasn't sure what to expect of the hotel or the country for that matter, but the hotel exceeded all expectations. The staff was courteous and if you have time, you should definitely take advantage of the breakfast buffet. If there is anything you want, they had it and it was all fresh and/or cooked to order! The pool looked a little sketchy, but otherwise, no complaints.

Rated 1 out of 5 by prov93 Worst Le Meridien Ever!
I have travelled around the World and stayed at many properties. I can say, without reservation, that Le Meridien in Douala is the WORST Meridien and Starwood property I have ever stayed in! The rooms appeared to be dirty, run down, mold and rust on the ceilings and dirty brown water out of the faucets. Service was non-existence and staff was surly. The most poor excuse for a Starwood property ever! Not to mention that it was not cheap. Avoid this hotel if you can.
What is even more amazing is that Starwood allows this property to part of its chain, thus dragging the Starwood name down with it. When one stays at a Hotel Chain, they do so because they expect to get a certain standard of accommodation, service and comfort. This property does not fulfill any of these requirements. Starwood, please take note!!

I was in Cameroon for a Conference and stayed at Le Meridien for 2 days. I ate at the Restaurant for majority of the meals and have room service twice. Everything was really great and I had very little reason to complain.
Only thing I would want done better is to have more hotel staff be bilingual especially those taking room service orders. I tried ordering an American Breakfast (I don't speak French) and I don't know what I received but it definitely wasn't an American Breakfast. I also asked for Eggs Sunny Side Up and received some sort of Omelette. I decided to just have it anyway but called back to insist on getting the coffee as I had been given Green Tea. About 7 minutes later, I had a knock on my door... Room service delivered a steaming pot of Black Tea! I gave up!
Other than that slight lapse, everything else was great and I would strongly recommend this hotel to others going to Cameroon.
