Rated 2 out of 5 by SPG rooms given to non-SPG account holders Le Meridien in Port Gentil is not a 4 star hotel and I am surprised it is still trading under the Starwood group name however the hotel is better than most others in Gabon but that is a comparison from a very low base level. I did not get an SPG room during my stay although these rooms were available and given to non SPG customers. August 4, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by there's no other better choice When you are on a long stay at this hotel, I must say that it's not a very pleasant experience to hear the same Cesaria Evora every morning at the restaurant, nor to change rooms every time something stops functioning in your room. But i was told that there is no other better place in POG, so I had to bear with the existing conditions. The food and the varieties for breakfast was alright, so was the laundry service and the receptionists Georgette and Joel who always welcomed me with a smile on their face. And thanks to Florian who was there to meet our complaints and offer a room on the executive floor, it turned out to be a nice stay after all. Thanks for everything! December 10, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by RESTAURANT NEEDS A COMPLETE CHANGE OF SYSTEM > Food not good/fresh, specially the fish dishes. > Staff need to be more friendly and properly trained for the job they do. > Menu needs to be changed from time to time. > Items displayed on menu not available when ordered. > Waiting period to much too long when only 1 or 2 diners present . > No side plates for bread, no salt on the tables, no proper spoons for cereals on the breakfast tables. > Staff need to be properly trained to use Espresso Machine, capuccino is terrible. Rated 3 out of 5 disappointed although I have stayed here before, this time it did not meet my expectations. No TV, keycard not working, shower head bracket broken, no hot water, internet very slow and (still) not for free, and even no towels on my last day - had to ask for them. June 23, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Bad service We stayed at the hotel where the planes are always delayed and the hotel mess shuts at 2200 hrs. The staff does not understand english, the rooms offered were bad, stinking of paint and not ventillated. I had to request cook to get me something even a piece of bread with cheese. Veg cousine is not available. August 28, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by Quite pleasant Staff were very friendly, SPG status recognised, first room was a little tired looking but still perfectly acceptable, second night in a much better renovated room. Food and bar service was pretty good, not long to wait for order to be taken or for food to be served. Most staff spoke some English. All in all, quite pleasant. Will be much better once the proposed renovations will be done. The only one annoyance was the noise of doors closing/slamming through the night and the amount of light coming in the room beneath the door. June 4, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by 5-star for African Standards Compared to other hotel options in Port Gentil, this hotel stands far above the rest. You cannot expect the same Le Méridien quality you'll find in other (more developed) parts of the world; however, the sheets will be clean, the air conditioning will work, they'll have a generator (it sometimes takes a little while to kick in), and the breakfast will be excellent. Local staff are definitely slow and can often be quite uncooperative. They may even refuse to understand English, Spanish, or Portuguese. Fortunately, Lubica from the hotel's marketing department is an absolute gem, who will happily translate for you. Note that the pool is often closed, most of the power outlets in the lobby don't work, and the entire place could use a good paint job; but, again, compared to your other options in Port Gentil, I wouldn't go anywhere else--in spite of a rather high nightly rate and a ridiculous surcharge for Internet (which I found out on my last night they waive for SPG Gold and Platinum).
