Rated 3 out of 5 by Noggie Under refurbishment
No information about ongoing refurbishment until AFTER booking! Still, had a nice stay due to incredibly skilled and friendly staff. Will not go back until hotel is refurbished, said to be in August.

the hotel was great and the staff wonderful.
In spite of the refurbishment the hotel was still excellent and we did not notice the wok going on.
the staff went out of their way to be very helpful and were so pleasant. the concierge was super and made good recommendations, the Emirates palace afternoon tea was a lovely experience.
Ethel and Pamela in the club lounge were particularly delightful, so hard working and always smiling and pleasant.
Thank you for a lovely stay

Arriving 9:30pm on a three night business trip, I found just one bath towel - no hand towels or floor mat, but too tired to point this out. Next day there was a full complement.
Couldn't get the water to run hot in the bath or shower during my three night stay, but it was (just) warm enough. Strange shower design - just a half width barrier between the toilet/wash basin area and the shower, which is fine if the water drains away, but it didn't, so it just ran round the barrier so I had to wash and shave standing in shower water. On the second morning I used the bath mat as a barrier. Not being the complaining sort (unless invited to do so) I put up with it.
Thereafter, things got better. Service generally was first class, you are acknowledged by every member of staff, breakfast and dinner buffets in the Amalfi restaurant were excellent, (although the staff could be a little more attentive when your coffee or drink needs replenishing). The hotel's saving grace was on my last evening, when I got into the lift with one of the hotel's managers (I assume) who asked how my day had been. I said I was looking for some souvenirs but had been unsuccessful. She offered to stop the lift, take me down and point out the 10 min walk to the Hamdin Bazaar - which she did, and which solved those gift problems.
A couple of minor pointsd - there was nothing in my room that promoted the facilities of the hotel - fortunately I'd been on the website before travelling. Secondly, you would never know that premium wi-fi is free - fortunately I checked this out at reception.
