Even before we were informed that the hotel was closing, it was obvious that this was a hotel in trouble. I had booked a half-board package but at dinner the first night, I was presented with a bill in which each item was charged for individually. I was assured that this would be taken care of at check out. Since we had a four-night stay, I was concerned. At breakfast the next morning, I was informed that we could not sit in a particular area in the restaurant. Being in Belgium, my wife wanted waffles for breakfast but was told none was available. I then spoke to the front office manager about the billing and breakfast problems. As a result, I went onto a room-only basis. Breakfast continued to be a problem. Not great food and clearing of dishes was erratic. Our room was a suite on a suite nights award. However, it was one a modern renovated suite as shown on the hotel's website. Getting the complementary water was a battle each day. At 10 pm on Friday we were told that the hotel would be closing at noon on Saturday. This was not too much of a problem for us since we were due to check out then. It did, however, take some time to check out and get final bill.

We are not very very happy abou this hotel. We checked in with two rooms on Oct 21 and 22, 2011. We used points in one room and paid around 119 Euro for another room ( can not remember exactly, please verify). The room that was paid for was extremely hot. We tried to adjust the thermostat but did not work. The toilet also could not flush properly. I came down and talked to the receptionist and let her know the problems. She told us to push harder on the toilet to flush and open the window. I asked her politely to send someone into the room and check the problem and she got upset and rolled her eyes. We went out for dinner and night tour. When we came back, the toilet was fixed but the heater did not get fix, only the window was opened instead and there is a big fly. ( I was surprised bu t it was really a fly. The second problem is when we checked out the lady at the reception told us that we have a balance of 350 Euro for the room that we paid 119 Euro. I told her that the room was paid in full. Luckily, I have my AXP statement showed that it was paid, but she said that means I only paid partially not in full. I asked her several times to double check and she refused. She insisted that I still owe 350 Euro. I told her that we need to catch a train back to Paris and we were running out of time. We stood there and arguing for over 10 minutes. Finally, she checked on the computer again and said we did paid in full. We ( four of us) missed the train that we already purchased and have to pay additional 400 Euro for new train tickets. I have all the proves. What should I do to have all these damages and disappointment recover?

Steps from the Central train station and a very short walk to city center. Plenty of restaurants and cafes within a few blocks. Rooms are good size and well appointed (odd selection of artwork, however). Staff was friendly and spoke good English.

Excellent location, for easy transport (taxi, train). We discovered the elevator to the market level - great if you struggle with cobble-stoned hills. Enjoyed the city view from our room. Very good buffet breakfast and responsive staff. Loved the cartoon decor but it would help if the French punch-lines had multi-lingual translations. I didn't get all the jokes. Thanks for the use of your umbrellas when it rains.
Only problem was when the back elevator couldn't be used because the doors to the lower mall were sealed during holidays.

Well I really do not understand why the rate of this hotel is low amongst those who have posted their reviews at spg.com. The front desk staffs were very welcoming. PLUS, even though I payed quite a cheap rate COMBINED with free night awards, I will still able to be upgraded to their deluxe suite. The rooms are big and the bed, I would say was mighty comfortable....Everyone was so helpful and I just loved the front desk staffs...Everything I needed, I got right away....Plus they gave me free wine as compliments!!!! 5 star indeed....Even the locals are very well aware on how respectable Le Meridien Brussels is......

Excellent hotel. Quick check-in and very friendly staff. We stayed for 4 nights and enjoyed it very much. Breakfast is excellent. The guys at the concierge desk were very helpful and gave us good recommendations for our daytrip to Brugge.
We definitely stay here again if we go back to Brussel.

I enjoyed this hotel. Strengths - good location, right in the heart of an active area. Right across from train station which was convenient. Breakfast buffet was a nice Platinum benefit. Staff was friendly. We were upgraded to a nice executive room with a sitting area and a view of a plaza area.
The hotel seemed just a bit dated, and at night, I'm unsure if the area is particularly safe. I know the hotel locked its front door, and also had a locked door from the garage. I'm sure those were just safety precautions, but it was a little off-putting.
Overall, I'd recommend the hotel and stay again without hesitation for a visit to Brussels. BTW, do yourself a favor and skip the Mannekin Pis statue nearby. We ran to see it (about 10 minutes each way) and almost missed a train to do so. It was a small statue without much value. Take a pass! ;-)
