Just a short drive from Castillo Hotel Son Vida is the culturally rich Palma de Mallorca. In the center of the old city sits the landmark La Seu Cathedral surrounded by a maze of narrow alleys and cobblestone streets. Tucked within the passageways are fine handicrafts and upscale shopping boutiques. For culturally curious guests, the world-class museums Pilar and Joan Miró Fundacion and Castle Bellver offer inspiration, as does the Auditorium of Palma, the host of many premier operas and concerts. For unique regional tastes, stop at one of the city’s locales and sample Franja Roja or Viña Paumina: locally produced wines available exclusively on the island. Cuisine-driven guests can embark on a gastronomical tour of the island’s restaurants and nightlife.
There are also several day excursions within driving distance of the hotel. On the western coast, old romantic ports and fishing villages—Santa Ponça, Port D'Andratx, Andratx, Estellencs, Deia, and Soller—provide authentic glimpses into island life. Or visit Valldemossa, where the composer Frédéric Chopin and writer George Sand spent their now famous winter together. On the eastern coast, dramatic caves, historic ruins, and the famous cultured Mallorcan pearls offer adventure.
