On February 1, 1927, The Royal Hawaiian Resort opened its Moorish flamingo-colored doors, ushering in days of endless sunshine and a new era of luxury resort travel in the Hawaiian Islands. Set on ten acres of the fabled Waikiki beachfront on Oahu’s south shore, the resort quickly gained a reputation as a favorite vacation spot for international royalty. During World War II, The Royal Hawaiian Resort was leased exclusively to the U.S. Navy, but re-opened in 1947 after a large-scale renovation. The Royal Hawaiian Resort quickly regained its standing as an exclusive retreat for Hollywood’s brightest stars, heads of state, and the well-heeled travelers.

Once again, The Royal Hawaiian Resort has refreshed its grandeur with a multimillion-dollar transformation, taking “The Pink Palace” a step beyond traditional luxury resort expectations. The redesign, spearheaded by architect Robert Iopa and award-winning interior design firm Philpotts and Associates, Inc., has revitalized the entire property, conjuring a decidedly chic and modern atmosphere that is still captivatingly Hawaiian. The Royal Beach Tower was completed in 1969 and added an additional 168 guestrooms and 11 suites, all with ocean views and lanais to meet the demands of modern travelers. Separated from the Historic Building by a regal promenade, the Royal Beach Tower features an exclusive guest lounge with concierge service, refreshments, computer services, reading materials, and other features. The distinctive architecture and its rosey hue remain, as do the elegant details that nod to a storied past.
