Rated 5 out of 5 by Classic Hotel We stayed here for a weekend arriving late on the Friday and departing Sunday. As a Platinum we were upgraded to a great room on the top floor with a balcony and views out over the city. As we did not arrive until late we had room service which was excellent. Rather than the trend to just bring a tray and leave it it was setup and servers properly which was really nice and the food was all fresh and hot. All the staff at the hotel were very helpful and greated us by name. The pool while small is very nice and the steams and sauna are also very nice! Excellent hotel and would return without a doubt should we be in the area again! November 22, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by A real jewel I returned to the hotel Des Indes after 3 years from my last stay, and it is one of the best hotels I've ever stayed. There is something unique about this hotel which I haven't found in any other hotel. It's full of history, and at the same time it is a wonderful contemporary hotel. You sense its 132 years of history, but you are also surrounded by a wonderful, rich contemporary design which gives the Des Indes a theatrical look and feel. It's also extremely well proportioned: it's not a big hotel but it is not small either. The common areas are suitable to host anything from a royal dinner (in fact, they have!) to an informal conversation over tea. There are plenty of cozy corners, all enriched by the red, gold and purple velvet chairs. The color scheme of the hotel is just fantastic. Accommodation is superb. We stayed in a junior suite, which is in fact one very large room with a canopy bed, a sofa with table and chair, and a work desk. Despite the fact that there is no separate living room, the suite is big enough to make it a very pleasurable space to work or enjoy a drink in company. The little touches like a Nespresso machine, superb teas and the possibility to complement them with local sweets and snacks only add to the welcoming feeling of the hotel. On both nights of my stay I had the best sleep I can remember in a hotel; the bedding is of really very good quality. The bathroom is stunning, large, contemporary and functional. Small details such as the dimmed light by the mirror which is perfect at night make the accommodation very pleasant and pleasurable. Breakfast is abundant and of excellent quality. There are several sorts of bread and pastries, cold cuts and cheese, eggs, bacon, fruits and cereals. Many products are local. We had dinner one evening during one of the special "des introduce" weeks, when there is a special menu. The dinner was very good (5 courses to discover the "umami" taste, all with a Dutch flavor) and the wine arrangement let me discover some really good wines. The service was outstanding, and all the staff were extremely professional and friendly. The gym and the spa are truly enjoyable even if they are not very large. The gym is very smartly arranged so that there are a variety of machines and treadmills and also space for exercises. The spa has a large sauna, a steam room and a small swimming pool. The pool however has some jet streams that make it possible to swim as if one were in a lap pool. It does the trick - and after a few strokes you can relax on one of the four relax beds nearby. There are also a number of massage and treatments rooms in the spa. All this makes the Des Indes one of the top hotels I've ever stayed at. The difference is made by the staff, by their true desire to serve, respect and listen to the guests. As an example, at check out I suggested that they could install 2 more reading lights by the relax beds in the spa. When I got home, I found a personal email from the duty manager, thanking me for my stay and for my suggestion about the lights, which she will discuss with the management team. It's only a small example of how this hotel makes staying there special. May 13, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Wonderful weekend My daughter and I han a wonderful weekend in Des Indes. At the check in they advised is not to take a room at the ground floor, but to wait a little bit for a room withoud noise. A good advice! We had a beautiful, fully equiped room, very clean, on the third floor. That evening I was ill, so my daughter ordered room service: We got not only the ordered pasta, but also bread, butter and a glass of icewater. The broken coffee machine was fixed in no-time. The bed was nice and soft. The next day we needed a taxi. A well-kept car with a really friendly, elderly driver drove us. Because of the wonderful historical hotel we had a great weekend. Rated 5 out of 5 by Grande Dame with Designer Flair As a great aficionado of modern design, I wanted to see the hotel primarily to experience the work of Jacques Garcia. I was not disappointed...all the historical beauty of the hotel has been preserved and augmented with cosmopolitan decor and ultra-modern design features. I loved the decoration of the corridors with a modern take on Dutch tiles and beautiful hand-painted tulips swaying on the walls! Prior to arrival I received an email from the head concierge, Marianne, offering to help with any pre-arrangements I might require. As the Holland Dance Festival was on, I asked for a ticket for the evening of my arrival and she responded immediately. Upon arrival I was presented with the ticket and, amazingly, there was no mark-up on it at all...someone must have gone and queued for it at the theater. That's service! Attached to her email were EIGHTEEN videos of the hotel and I watched all of them - they were fascinating with details of the hotel's history, illustrious guests and restoration. This got me really excited about my stay and made it all the more meaningful. February 18, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Beautiful Grand Hotel We stayed at the Hotel Des Indes for 3 nights when visiting the Netherlands. The hotel did not upgrade our room even with my Platinum status. They did however recognize my mother's birthday with wine and dessert. That was a nice touch. The hotel did not advise us that there was a carnival set up right next to the hotel that was very noisy until midnight on Sunday and after 11pm during the week. They offered us ear plugs but I don't think that really solved the problem! Our room was on the 3rd floor facing the carnival. The breakfast buffet was very nice with a wonderful selection of a variety of foods. April 25, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Almost perfect There are a lot of positive things to say about this hotel: - Great location - Nice platinum upgrade to a junior suite (without asking) - Lovely hotel with a faboulous history and attractive bar/restaurant area. - Luxerious room, with high ceilings. wonderful bathroom and all the desired amenities. But, as much as I want to give this charming hotel a five star rating, there were some issues that cannot be overlooked: - Horrible wifi in the room. Called front desk twice about this, but they were not able to fix it. Needless to say it was impossible to get some work done during the stay. - When we asked the concierge if she had a map of Rotterdam, the only response was "Sorry, no." A real good concierge would offer to print out a map from google map etc. - Service in the bar was almost non-existent. Two days in a row (Fri/Sat) we were sitting with an empty glass for almost 45 min before we (reluctantly) called it a day and asked (or more like waived desperatly with our hands) for the bill. All in all a great - and ALMOST - perfect stay. Would return in a heartbeat. November 27, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by May 2012 dream stay at Hotel Des Indes We recently stayed at the Des Indes Hotel in The Haque Netherlands. Our stay was wonderful from facilities, food, room, and service from everyone we had contact... from the front desk, door man, the restaurant staff, to the maid staff. We lived in The Hague for several years in the 80"s. Des Indes was the top hotel then and is now even better with all of the renovations and Starwood Management. i want to thank Priscilla personally for handling our reservations and the personal attention she and the entire staff provided on our 4 night stay. This was a dream come true we will never forget. May 23, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Service with a big smile in an elegant facility We started miling as soon as t cab pulled up to the hotel and we walked into the lobby. It is a gorgeous property and the location is awesome. We were frustrated that we could hear noise outside all night long. Because we were there during fabulous weather and two musical events, people were laughing ad talking all night long. We loved ou suite, but it faced te park and the hotel entrance. The tram was nearby which made it easy to visit Delft and the gorgeous beach. Breakfast is over te top. Definitely book this hotel, but bring earplugs. Also, the gym is way too small.
