Rated 2 out of 5 by Old hotel and unaccomodating staff. I was glad to be able to find hotel in the city on the short notice, however was not quite happy with my stay. Late checkout was denied, and 2 pm checkout was beyond what they can do? No upgrade, and the room looked pretty sad. Front desk attitude was not appreciated. May 14, 2013

Rated 4 out of 5 by Wonderful Stay for Family Traveled with our 10 yr old twin daughters for first trip to DC for spring break. we booked two rooms a year in advance using star points and got written confirmation that we would have connecting rooms facing Massachusetts Avenue. When we checked in on evening of our arrival we got two rooms with kings facing an alley, one room being accessible with no tub. The tiles were also broken in the bathroom and the carpet frayed. Very disappointed and spoke to manager who moved us the next day to two rooms that exceeded our expectations and made our vacation enjoyable all around. Hotel is in quiet residential area but full of shops. We would definitely stay here again. April 3, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by very nice hotel It was our first wedding anniversary trip and we chose the Fairfax. It met our expectations. The room was clean, huge and very well maintained. The staff was very accommodating and attentive. Our complaint is only on its restaurant. Because we could not reserve any restaurants around the hotel in advance, we decided to use the dining place which belongs to the hotel. However, we got to know that the menu we chose was not available at that time and we chose another, but we had to wait quite while until we got to the main dishes. It seemed that the number of staffs working was small relative to the number of guests. April 3, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Membership has its rewards The staff at this hotel were absolutely fabulous. I was upgraded well based upon my status and they were just friendly in a city where that is the exception and not the rule. This hotel is very historic and in a great quarter of the city. Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Starwood Hotel and Service Stayed two different nights in the past week. On both trips, I was struck by the level of service provided and the helpfulness of the entire staff. Starwood recognition was spot on, was upgraded to a deluxe suite both times. The hotel is classically furnished and decorated, and the rooms are very comfortable (great beds). Interestingly, the bathrooms in the two suites were somewhat different -- this hotel has character and is not cookie-cutter. The workout facility was perfectly acceptable as well. The valet was also fast and efficient. February 22, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Small Room I have stayed at the The Fairfax many times but this visit was marred by being assigned one of the smallest rooms I've ever stayed in. There was no room to move around. There was only one chair in the room and it had to be tucked under the desk in order to get to the other side of the bed. The mirror in the bathroom was hung so low that I need to bend over to save and comb my hair and I'm not tall. On two occasions I asked to have the room dusted since there was a thick layer of dust on the electrical outlets under the desk. Our radio was broken and they simply sent up another leaving the broken one in the room. It was a very disappointing stay. January 23, 2012
