What more can I say beyond what others have already noted: SGS is an exceptional urban hotel in every regard. Large, well appointed rooms; exceptionally helpful staff; right on both the skytrain and the subway, which are the best way to navigate traffic-choked Bangkok; the pool is a welcome retreat in the city ... I love the meandering, well-landscaped design and it was great to grab a drink by the pool and hot tub after busy Bangkok days; plus there is a fairly good Thai restaurant "Basil" on site.

I have had many excellent meals during my trip to Thailand, but the one at Basil, Sheraton Grande was outstanding. My only regret was that I was only free to dine there once.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Apecalvin I miss the old work desk!
On this stay, we were offered a newly-renovated room. Essentially, they have stained the original wood fittings dark. This dark-wood look instantly transforms the room, making it younger and more modern. I was also glad to see that they had not hacked out all of the old marble tiles and wooden frames, instead they have polished and touched up these original fittings to minimise wastage of precious resources. The soft fittings like carpet, Thai silk wall coverings on the feature wall, and curtains are all new.
But here is where the problem lies: they have also installed a built-in cabinet to house the mini-bar fridge and TV, and work desk. The work desk is now part of a long built-in unit running the length of the room. The surface space (work top) is limited and you have to face the wall while you work. Remember the old original desks, with the marble tops and the baroque legs? I feel each room has more than enough space for such a stand-alone desk. In any case, it is such unique stand-alone furniture pieces that set a truly 5-star hotel apart from tourist-class accommodations, which often use character-less built-in furniture to maximise space. I would love to see the old desk, with its wooden legs stained dark, rendering the gold-leaf trims even more outstanding, back in the room. But sadly, it is a bit late for that now.
That said, we weren’t upgraded to a suite so I haven’t seen what the new suites look like. And while the renewed room feels posh, modern and warmly inviting, the built-in desk feels far less than Luxury Collection.
What I love most about this hotel, and what everybody raves about, is its people. And that hasn’t changed one bit – service is as always impressive and unparalleled. If anything, they seem to get even better at what they do with each stay.

Excellent and efficient service from check in to check out. Excellent room, quiet and good views. Short walk to BTS and MRT public transportation (which often is the quickest way to get around in Bangkok traffic).
