Serenity can be found at the Five Officials Temple. Deemed a local cultural treasure, it was built in memory of five famous officials that were banished to Hainan during the Tang and Song dynasties. More wonders can be found at the Tomb of Hai Rui. Set amid swaying coconut palms and picturesque landscapes, this historic relic was built in the late 1580s. Take a walk around the old district to explore the heritage buildings that were once the homes of wealthy overseas Chinese people, and browse the local handicrafts in the small shops. Recharge at the nearby bustling Jinlong Food Street and sample a variety of cuisines from China, Japan, and Korea. Be sure to savour some of Hainan’s famous fresh fish and seafood while you are here. The crabs are particularly delicious.
