Intimate Elegance on the Côte d’Azur

Opened in 1974, Le Méridien Nice completed an extensive 8.5 million Euro renovation in 2008 that elevates the hotel to a new standard of luxury on the Côte d’Azur.

Spearheaded by renowned French interior designer François Champsaur, the hotel embraces the “art de vivre à la française”—combining a contemporary aesthetic with an intimate elegance true to the Côte d’Azur. His design vision emphasises a purity of lines, controlled exposure to light and a carefully selected palette that lives in harmony with the sea. “For this urban resort located on the seafront,” he explains, “I wanted to combine the dynamics of a city with a welcoming intimacy, which is why I have created clearly defined areas to provide guests a feeling of well-being.”

Consequently, all of the hotel’s public areas, the bar and the restaurant bask in an incredible brightness—a constant interplay between the streams of daylight and the nighttime glow of indirect lighting and candles. In the lobby, regal materials create an elegant and warm atmosphere—the existing white marble floors have been reworked, a stained walnut was chosen for the reception desk, creamy white leather covers the sofas and textured brown cotton covers the chairs. The décor is enlivened by touches of red and purple as featured in the carpet and the wall facing the deep azure blue staircase. A glazed partition separates the reception area from the lounge, establishing an intimate area for guests to relax whilst enjoying a coffee.

At the corner of the lobby, where the bar and restaurant are located, the ceilings and the columns are covered with stained walnut, creating a huge portico that opens out onto the sea and offers spectacular views of old Nice.

The restaurant is laid out so that each guest can absorb the view while enjoying their meal. For the furnishings, Champsaur carefully selected white leather for the banquettes and mocha leather for the armchairs as well as the stools along the ‘table d'hôte’—where guests are invited to sample Head Chef Sébastien Giannini’s cuisine as they face the Promenade des Anglais.
