In 1882, Abraham Staab, a prosperous merchant, built a three-story brick mansion for his gracious wife, Julia, and they entertained Santa Fe society in grand style. Legend has it that Julia so loved her home that she has never left—her alleged spirit has been the subject of many ghost tours and national television shows.

Subsequent owners built adobe casitas around the existing mansion and carriage house in the 1930s to accommodate friends who were visiting artists. Eventually, they opened a resort named La Posada, which is Spanish for “inn” or “resting place.” Many visitors, including Georgia O’Keeffe, became an important part of Santa Fe’s flourishing arts community and exhibited their work at what became known as “the Art Hotel of Santa Fe.”

La Posada de Santa Fe Resort & Spa comprises 26 buildings, many of which date back to earlier eras. The historic Staab House is home to its namesake bar and the award-winning Fuego Restaurant.

After recent expansions that included additional accommodations, the spa, and the Conference Center, La Posada has been transformed into the full-service resort that it is today, retaining its historic Southwestern charm and intimate ambience.
