Rated 4 out of 5 by A hotel and relaxed night club in one My wife and I made a very last minute reservation at The Liberty and had no idea what we were in for. The front entrance was a scene, but taking the escalator up into the extraordinary lobby filled with people, energy and the fruits of a great renovation of a really unusual building (former prison) was spectacular. The staff then continued to make our stay there as enjoyable and engaging as we felt on our arrival. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to be back. November 11, 2013

Rated 1 out of 5 by Pretentious With Mediocre Service The hotel is a great property that is pushing a luxury hotel that is a club. I think the idea could work, but the Libery's execution is flawed. Having a club at the entrance of the hotel is a poor idea. While it is entertaining to walk into, it creates a mass of logistical and potentially legal problems. Having cars pull up to where the club entrance is creates an unsafe environment. Walking into the hotel lobby through two "clubs" is interesting, but as someone checking into the hotel and expecting to have a more relaxed atmosphere, the concept fails miserably. If the entrance was seperated from the "club" entrance perhaps the concept would work better. In addition to this design flaw, the staff are rather pretentious and generally unhelpful. The restaurant service was slow, the Valet brought up the wrong car and also argued with me when I arrived. The front desk was reasonable. I was very surprised at the lack of service and attention to detail at the hotel and think that by including the "clubs", the hotel makes it very difficult to enjoy the experience. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and would suggest that there are plenty of better options in Boston to stay at. November 11, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Not quite a "luxury" hotel We loved the entry and checkin - staff was extremely pleasant. Once in our room - it was just ok - stain on bedroom wall - no turn down service - we had showered for a wedding we were attending and would have appreciated new towels for the morning - also staff did not check alarm clock as previous guest must have set it and it went off a 4 am and we couldn't figure how to turn off. Just little things but these make a hotel "luxury" The wedding we attended at your hotel was just lovely. November 11, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Made my birthday special I used points for our stay. I am a platinum member and requested special attention/ an upgrade for my birthday. I was wonderfully accommodated with a suite, and Thomas who checked us in was delightful and must have wished me a happy birthday 5 times! I felt special and appreciated as a platinum member. Every staff member was friendly and went out of their way to make our stay a great one! Will recommend this hotel to everyone! Perfect location also!!! Thank you….wish we could have stayed longer! Rated 5 out of 5 by Wow - A beautiful hotel from what was a jail It was amazing to see the transformation from a jail to a luxury hotel. The welcome we received from the time we arrived to the time we departed was terrific! The lobby was great, especially the nightime fashion show (totally unexpected but pleasantly surprised). I would definitely recommend The Liberty Hotel to all. Great experience, welcoming staff and perfect location within Boston (MTA is right across the street). Thanks to everyone at The Liberty for making our stay just PERFECT! November 10, 2013

Rated 2 out of 5 by SPG platinum does not mean anything to this hotel The liberty hotel is a great place for a drink or to meet friends or to just hang out in the beautiful lobby. But the hotel rooms (for a luxury hotel) are not up to snuff. As a platinum member I was not upgraded (at all!) and put in a room with a wonderful view of the back of a building. When I mentioned this to the staff they sort of shrugged and told me there wasnt anything they could do about it. I had to wait twice at check in counter (as there wasnt anyone around) and I was not at all satisfied with the value for money. October 30, 2013

Rated 1 out of 5 by Hotel needs Spring Cleaning! I stayed at this hotel and had to move the bed to find out why my son and I were having such dramatic reactions and found dust build-up that had been there for months along with dirty tissues. View from window was a building about 20 feet away, there is no view on this side of Hotel. After speaking to Front Desk they had no ability to do anything as they had no other rooms available. There is a club that takes place in the lobby, beware of loud music! Had to move hotels after just 6 hours, many better choices in Boston. October 27, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Disappointing service at Liberty hotel The service was disappointing at best. The people at the check-in desk were not knowledgeable enough. I arrived early and had called the day before to indicate that I woudl be early. I was told that my room was not ready at 1:30 which was understandable. When I went back at 4:30, the staff asked if I had been called. I said I had not and they said my room must not be ready. I said it was past check-in time and I wanted to talk to a manager. When they went back to find manager, they returned saying the room was ready. Bell man never appeared. Apparently there are no bellmen before 7am, but no one said that when i called for one. Rated 1 out of 5 by The hotel should know better .... The hotel plays EXTREMELY LOUD music on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights from 10 pm to 2 am. To give us the Charles Harrington Suite (Room 332) without telling us that we would not be able to sleep until after 2 am is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. Fortunately, we were able to move to the Tower Guest Rooms but how anyone can assume that any of the rooms within earshot of the lobby music is a suitable room is unfathomable. This hotel needs to NOT give these rooms to those wanting to go to bed at a decent hour!!! We will never stay here again unless we request the Tower Guest rooms. iT WAS SUCH A DISAPPOINTMENT!. What a royal nightmare! THIS IS NOT STARWOOD QUALITY AND NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED INTERNALLY ... I EVEN ASKED STAFF TO COME AND LISTEN TO THE MUSIC COMING THROUGH THE WALLS INTO OUR ROOM. Rated 3 out of 5 by Cleanliness/facilities are underwhelming, unfriendly staff Arrived in my room to a broken television, and it took staff nearly a half an hour to move me because they "couldn't find a technician" to fix the TV. Arrived in my next room and had dirty towels strewn across the room and a used bathroom. Underwhelming. The hotel lobby is nice, but staff are somewhat unaccommodating (particularly at restaurants). Rated 4 out of 5 by Service is not as great as in the past We've stayed at the Liberty many times. We've loved the location, decor, and relaxing at the beautiful bar in the vault ceiling lobby. However, for the past few stays, the service in the lobby bar was poor--it's very hard to get servers to come over even during quiet afternoons. After waiting for 15 minutes for a server to come over (she kept disappearing for long periods) we asked a manager if she could take our order, and she was quite irritated with us. For our most recent stay, we were told that there was only one room left, an upgraded delux room available for $500. We were disappointed to find that the room was not what we expected based on our past stays. We dont mind paying the price for a nice room, but we felt mislead. We could have booked at one of the many other hotels in Boston. When we expressed that to the desk clerk the next day, she appeared unable to understand that we would have liked to have had a fairer description of the room. We didnt want any financial gain, we wanted to express that the booking could have been done better. Her response was defensive. We felt like it is such a privilege to stay at the Liberty, we were outrageous to voice a concern. I am not sure that we will book here again for a long time. October 15, 2013

Rated 5 out of 5 by Another enchanting stay at the Liberty Boston I treated my cousin and her husband along with myself and husband to a night at my favorite hotel. As usual the staff and Liberty were top notch. They were stunned at the beauty of the hotel lobby. We enjoyed another fabulous meal at Scampo as well. Hats off to the Liberty! October 10, 2013

Whether it's business in the Financial District or touring through Beacon Hill, Back Bay, or North End; the Liberty has it all right there for you. Rated 3 out of 5 by Noisy Night Club an Unpleasant Distraction Accomodations were quite nice (other than the shower leaking) but Saturday nights are a bit crazy there with the night club spilling out into the hotel lobbies. Plus someone pulled the fire alarm at 2am which was very upsetting. October 7, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Like a Nightspot with Hotel Rooms My stay was Thursday afternoon through Sunday morning. In the lobby during the evening, you had to wend your way through crowds of 20-somethings while loud music pulsated. I didn't see anywhere to sit down for a quiet drink or cup of coffee with friends. The room was fine, but the scale was missing a foot and didn't work. It's not that I need a scale when I'm traveling, but anything provided should be usable. October 7, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by HBS reunion We stayed at Liberty for a Harvard reunion, The room was fine, but the party scene in the lobby made it impossible for my friends to gather or have a drink or hang out together. The party scene was also very loud late into the night and caused a false fire alarm evacuation. The only meal we ate there, a brunch, was very mediocre. Other than fruit there was nothing healthy- no whole grain bread or even plain bread. Just commercial bakery muffins and powdered scrambled eggs October 7, 2013

Rated 3 out of 5 by Hotel not as luxurious as expected My husband and I booked The Liberty for a weekend getaway on a friend's recommendation. We are loyal SPG members and were disappointed in the hotel overall. While our initial impression of the exterior of the hotel and the lobby was very positive, we did not find our room to be as luxurious as expected based on our stays at other SPG Luxury Collection hotels. The in-room appointments were not any nicer than a standard hotel. For example, the chair and carpet looked well worn and dirty, the closet door did not close all the way without making a loud screeching noise and the television volume only went up or down by 4 either way. Also, there was a used shower gel mini-bottle left in the shower. We requested late checkout when we initially checked in and our room keys deactivated before the appointed time on our last day. The gentleman at the front desk was apologetic and corrected the issue. The porters outside were very pleasant. All in all, the hotel did not meet our expectations and we would not stay again. Hotel architecture is wonderful as are the restaurants and nightclub. Highly recommend this property...nice rooms but a bit small is the only downfall. Thanks! September 27, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Outstanding Hotel Liberty Hotel exceeded all my expectations. The hotel was quirky & absolutely beautiful inside. The rooms were clean, the staff were lovely. The hotel had multiple bars to enjoy a drink prior to going out or to enjoy a cheeky nightcap. The location of the hotel was perfect being just of Beacon Street & so easy to get around the city. I wouldn't hesitate to stay again if/when I return to Boston. September 26, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Property Near Boston Common Overall: The Liberty Hotel is a great property with a unique history, terrific rooms overlooking the river, excellent SPG recognition, convenient access to public transportation, and a vibrant nightlife. Check-In & SPG Recognition: Wil, the front desk associate, was polite and professional. I received an SPG Platinum Status upgrade from a Deluxe King room to a Signature Suite on the 8th floor. Room: The suite was fantastic, including terrific river views, separate living room and bedroom, a dining table, and a large bathroom. The appointments were comfortable, tasteful, and well-maintained. September 24, 2013
