Rated 5 out of 5 by A personal and intimate exploration of Gehry's work, and an encounter with a very kind and thoughtful associate Having visited the stunningly handsome and inspiring Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, this hotel came as a more personal and intimate appreciation and exploration of Frank Gehry's work. I booked a premium deluxe room and was pleased to be given a room in the main house. I was wished a happy birthday at check-in, and in the room, I was pleasantly surprised to find a bottle of cava and some truffles, complete with a birthday card. The views all around were nothing short of breathtaking! We took in the view from our room window, from the terraces of the Vinoteca and 1860, where had our lunches and breakfasts, and also from the comfortable library on the top floor. We swam in the hotel pool, explored the hamlet, Elciego, cycled around the vineyards, and enjoyed a tour of the winery, which ended with a wine tasting session. We also visited the nearby Laguardia, where we had one of my most memorable dinners; but taxi rides to and from the walled medieval town were exorbitant. Finally, I would like to commend the associate who checked us out. We had to leave pre-dawn to catch an early flight to Madrid from Logrono airport, and this young lady had been so kind and thoughtful as to offer us some fruit and pastry to take along with us. I feel strongly that we need our frontline staff to be able to show such empathy and initiative. We were very touched and impressed, and it was a pity that in our haste and anxiety, we neglected to get her name. We check out at 5:30am on 16 June - if the GM is reading this, please tell us her name and send her our commendations. Our stay at Marques de Riscal had been very memorable and we will come back again! June 16, 2016

Rated 5 out of 5 by One of the Best Stays of our Lives It's difficult to adequately summarize such a great experience except to say that our time here exceeded all expectations and was above and beyond what we could have ever anticipated. This is one of the most beautiful buildings we have ever stayed in and, in conjunction with our experiences with the staff, we were impressed an an almost hourly basis. Prior to our arrival, we arranged transportation with the hotel. Our driver picked us up at the train station and promptly took us to Marques de Riscal. On arrival, even after close to 30 hours of travel, our check in was smooth ,and we were presented with all the information necessary for our stay. Our main point of contact during our stay was Casilda and she was absolutely phenomenal in answering any questions we had as well as in helping us plan all details of our time in the surrounding area. Staff at the hotel were incredibly friendly and welcoming. All staff made attempts to communicate in both Spanish and English and it was very easy to communicate with everyone there. Our room had one of the best views in the entire hotel with direct line of sight into El Ciego and the mountains behind it. Much of time was spent sitting in admiration of our beautiful surroundings. We ate in Bistro 1860 and the Wine Bar and had great food and experiences in both. We thoroughly enjoyed the pool, jacuzzi, sauna and spa services (Barrel Bath & Couples Massages). Every corner of the hotel showcased a new look into the surrounding environment of the vineyard and El Ciego. One of the features I personally enjoyed most was the library on the third floor. It was a very relaxing space where I wish I had more time to spend. When we decided to explore the area surrounding the hotel, we were able to borrow bicycles from the front desk and were provided with a map of suggested paths to explore in order to best soak in the beauty of the area. We also attended a free winery tour and learned how the Marques de Riscal wine is made on the premises. After the tour we were able to enjoy a free tasting. There were absolutely no disappointments with anything during our stay here. We would rate the hotel and our stay as a 6/5 with an overwhelmingly strong recommendation to anyone remotely interested in this hotel. We already want to go back. March 12, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Stunning unique property in majestic La Rioja vineyard location! Absolutely LOVED our stay at this sybaritic hotel. Highly recommend at least 2 nights and upgrading to their spacious accommodation which has incredible views of the vineyard/town/valley. Make sure you book dinner reservations in advance at their famous Michelin restaurant so you are not disappointed. We will definitely come back! October 6, 2015

Rated 5 out of 5 by Wow . . .what an experience! This was such an unbelievable experience.. . ..to stay in not only a historic winery in La Rioja but to stay in a hotel designed by the legendary Gehry was amazing! We are SPG platinum and have traveled a lot and even this place left us with a WOW experience! When we checked in both Carolina (check in) to Serey (bellman) were friendly and amazing! There was another Spanish woman as well (forgot her name) but she was helpful with dinner ideas and other ideas of exploring the area! In any case we were upgrade to the beautiful Room 16 Executive Suite without terrace which had extraordinary views of the hotel and winery/vineyard so was amazing room. When we walked in we had a wonderful note and treat from the General Mgr Alexander Peev (wow a winery I wonder what it was :) ). In case the place was a wonderful place to stay and the breakfast and public spaces were top notch! We would return in heart beat not only because this place is amazing but we love Spain and La Rioja! August 9, 2015
