Lovely setting and location and on the whole a beautiful hotel. Unfortunately it lets itself down with silly little things like:
Pool - main pool was ok but around it was messy with pipes and the pool liner was creased and again looked messy. A large area that looked as if it should have been a 'beach' type pool for children simply looked abandoned and dirty.
Food - variable standard. Some days it was excellent with lots of good dishes to choose from, hot and fresh. But other days there was little choice, dishes not restocked and the food was cold. If everyday could be like their good days then it would be spot on.
Staff - all seemed friendly but on the whole they are pretty inefficient - they all seem try to do a bit of everything (in their own time) whereas if they worked as an organised team they would provide a better service without having to work any harder! 'Time & motion' review could sort this v quickly.
This hotel is so close to being 'perfect'. We had a fantastic week lazing in the wonderful sunshine, in a wonderful setting during the day and then sipping wine into the night in the wonderful outdoor dining areas. The evening entertainment was good - local bands/groups.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Bummiey my Gambia experience
The reception was warm! You'd think you were in the company of old friends. The room was simply furnished, but cosy and beautiful. Meal (especially dessert) were on time and to die for.
The entire experience helped us forget the balmy weather (we visited in during the rainy season).
This was my second visit........there will definitely be more!

This hotel is not regular Sheraton.
Whats good? Rooms are comfortable, good views. Food is OK.
Whats BAD ?
Service is TERRIBLE in general and the staff attitude is they do not seem to care. Management are trying but the staff are simply clueless. Reception staff are mostless clueless and "all training" so as soon as you ask a question they have to ask the 1 person who knows, who is always swamped! So i always talked with the airline staff lady Susan at night shift who does know her job.
TV channels ON/OFF i never know if it is my room or all hotel.....i call IT and they don't know either. Gladly i had no problems with my room unlike my work friend who had so many, except securtiy wake me at 2am to ask if i am checking out next day. If i wasn't checking out i would have changed hotels !
I'm lost as what anyone can do at this hotel, mayby softly softly approach here doesn't work. Line the staff up and fire someone because their attitude is wrong, warn the rest "you are next"unless you TRY HARDER.
This hotel must imporve or it can't remain a Sheraton !!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by YBee The Place is Falling Apart and the Service is TERRIBLE!!!
The hotel and location is beautiful; however, the entire place is falling apart! The maintenance culture is obviously poor/non-existing. The first room we were given was dirty and they had to come up to clean the floors and everywhere. We finally changed rooms, because the air conditioner was not working and the heat was unbearable. It took 2 days but they finally got around to changing the room. We checked out 5 rooms before we could finally settle for the one with the least problem! All the rooms had one major issue or the other. The room we settled for had a smaller bed than we paid for and a leaking roof, but by then, we couldnt be bothered...we had had enough! We just put a bucket and allowed the water to drip into it!!!!!
As for the service we recieved there, the worst ever!!!! I am an African and I am used to poor service....but this is the worst I have ever experienced in my entire life!!!! Asking for something as little as a teaspoon would require repeated requests!!!! Check-in took over an hour!!!! The staff just seemed really clueless!
The food was good most times and the natives are really friendly.
I definately wouldnt return to Sheraton Gambia ever again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Howard05 Nice but needs a bit more
I was in the Gambia on business not vacation so my needs were different from the usual vacationer. With that in mind, the most difficult item to deal with was the lack of reliable internet service. I realize that this type of service is not first in the entire country, but there are alternatives such as the QCELL network which I have used elsewhere on prior visits.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Lelpune A Fabulous Stay
Just returned from Sheraton Gambia, after a weeks stay. Absolute paradise! The hotel is situated on a beautiful private beach. All rooms have a fabulous sea view. The hotel is designed in the style of an African village ( looking a little more North African than West African, I think). The staff are very friendly and helpful, without being over bearing. Rooms are clean and well equipped. The food is delicious...and so much choice! The Manager of this hotel is to be highly commended, as are all the staff, from the gardeners, to the pool boys, cleaners, waiters, chefs security guards, and reception staff. My ideal holiday also includes birdwatching, and I was not disappointed! The hotel grounds are teeming with bird life, and it is not far from Lamin Lodge (a birdwatching paradise set in the mangroves), or Abuku Nature Reserve. If you want expert help with identifying the birds, or birdwatching trips arranged,, speak to 'Doctor Owl', the hotel's resident bird expert. He is usually available during the afternoons, to the right of the pool bar, and has a telescope set up, bird books and binoculars. I am already planning my return trip.
