Rated 3 out of 5 by Resting on its laurels I stayed at Equinox the nights of October 15 and 16. I had been there once before and thought it was great, but was disappointed on this trip. There are some negative aspects one has to accept if staying in an historic property (creaky floors, noise from the hallway, etc.). However, our bed (in Room 432) was horrible. No excuse for a bad bed. The main problem however was the service. Everyone was very nice when you got their attention, but my sense was that the hotel was understaffed. We went to the Falcon Bar on Saturday night for a drink.Bartender was working like crazy and took a solid five minutes to take our drink order. No problem, everyone gets slammed at some point. However, we had our first drink, walked around for a bit and then headed back to the bar to order another. We sat for at least 8 minutes at this point and ended up leaving without ordering a drink. We saw the bartender once or twice during that time, but he never acknowledged us. That is not to say he was not working hard because he was running around like crazy, but they needed at least one other person working. On Sunday, we had the breakfast buffet. It was not crowded when we were there (about 730a) and service was still poor. They have an omelette station. I went up and there was no chef so the hostess wrote down my order and said someone would bring it to me. I went to the buffet to get some other food, back to my table, ate everything and still no omelette. I went back to the omelette station and my order was sitting on the side of the table (cold at this point). Even if there as a miscommunication between the hostess and the omelette cook, the omelette should not have been left out especially considering there were less than 10 people in the restaurant at the time. There are still many positive aspects of the hotel, but when compared to other properties I think of as its competitors for a nice weekend away from Boston (Stowe Mountain Lodge, Topnotch, and Mount Washington Hotel ), it does not compare and is not worth the money. Rated 5 out of 5 by Beautiful Hotel, Great Location This is a beautiful, historic hotel. The grounds are very well-manicured and the Equinox Mountain property behind the hotel is great for exploring. That being said, it has old, thin walls and creaky floors. I was very disappointed with the first room we were given- within five minutes of checking in we heard children screaming in the rooms around us, people rolling luggage down the path outside, and the floors creaking above us. I called the front desk and was immediately moved to a similar room type on the 4th floor without hesitation! We never heard another peep from other hotel guests. I very much appreciated the move, but wish I'd never been put in the original room as a Platinum member. We really enjoyed breakfast each morning and had a nice meal in Marsh Tavern. The pool and hot tub are nice, but the hot tub was closed early (9:30 the cover was on when I walked up, even though the front desk told me 10 when I called before walking down) on our first night and then was broken by halfway through our third day. The spa staff was very kind and welcoming. The concierge staff are awesome and all offered very helpful recommendations throughout the area! All in all, we had a wonderful stay, were just surprised by all the noise in our original room. We hope to visit again soon! October 17, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by "Would highly recommend!" - "Memorable" We have frequented many Starwood Luxury Collection properties around the world and recently visited The Equinox for an unforgettable stay. The hotel, golf course and spa is located in an extremely advantageous location (close to everything). During our stay we also took in a fly fishing lesson through Orvis, as well as glass blowing, attended an amazing Lobster Boil with blue grass music etc and the mountain views a top MT. Equinox were breathtaking to say the least. Our room was also extremely comfortable with incredible views and every amenity requested was in the room upon arrival or was supplied as needed. The staff members made us feel like family from the very beginning with Gordna-Director of Revenue and Caroline-Reservations, who worked their magic with our accommodations and special needs; The Concierge Team, *Mr. Richard-Chief Concierge and Ed and Lee; Nick-Front Office Mgr., and Elizabeth-Front Office Supervisor; “Brownie”- Bell Captain and Valet “Bryn “were top notch! Susan-Director of Spa Services went above and beyond to accommodate my child with special needs; not to mention the food and beverage staff from Saundra to Maxine and all the others, not to forget Raymond the waiter at The Chop House (which was our personal favorite restaurant not only on the property but in the entire area!) I am already planning the next trip back to The Equinox! GREAT resort, incredible area, amazing shopping, breathtaking views and a wonderful spot for business or personal! We would highly recommend The Equinox. Thank you again for making our stay “Memorable” … October 16, 2016
Rated 1 out of 5 by Nothing but dissapointment Stayed at this hotel for the past weekend (Oct 1st) together with my family. We booked 2 rooms with points and requested for rooms with connecting doors. The hotel did have these rooms but could not provide to us. Instead they gave us rooms on the same floor - this would work for us if other things work well. Unfortunately this was not the case. The hotel looks nice outside. And that's all about it. Inside the hotel is very dated. The rooms definitely need renovation. I have been to a handful of other historic hotels within or outside of SPG that looked old but were very nice inside. Unfortunately, our rooms at this hotel were disappointing. First, the sound proofing was zero. There was not buffering area within the rooms. In one of our rooms (room #210) the bed was literally 2 feet from the door. We heard the cracking between floor pieces underneath the carpet whenever someone walked by our room in the hallway. The same rooms has a connecting door (again this surprised me why we could not get connecting rooms) that was also a nightmare. We heard conversations of the couple in the next room, which was not only disturbing our sleep but also made us uncomfortable speaking to each other as you would imagine every word of yours goes into their ears too! Second, the furniture in the rooms tired to fit into luxury sets. But can you believe the wardrobe in one room (#210 again) has mismatching doors and itself stands not even vertical. At some point I was afraid it would fall down onto my kid. Third, none of us are blonde, and the golden hair on our pillow (a brown pillow) was definitely alien. In fact I was not sure whether it was from a person or animal. BTW, hotel allowing animal was not a problem to me, but allowing the smell left on the carpet definitely was! Last but not least the housekeeping stuff did not realize that the metal box outside tissue box on the wash basin was wet at the bottom. The tissue paper was wet and the color turned into brown - purely disgusting. These along with some other trivial things made it a very disappointing stay for us. I know some of these are not as important as they would ruin your stay. However, it is such trivial stuffs that supposedly distinguish a hotel in the Luxury Collection from motels in the area. I say you have huge space for improvement. We did not use the restaurants within the hotel which were moderately rated on Yelp. They looked good though but no comments over the food since we did not try. The Equinox Preserve at the back of hotel appears to be public. You may hike there without staying at this particular hotel. The view at the top of Equinox mountain was fantastic. You may either hike on your feet, or drive up through the Skyline Driving (need to pay a fee for that though). I may consider to come back to Manchester at the right season. But I would not stay at this hotel unless other lodging options are absolutely impossible. October 3, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Meet my expectation It's a beautiful property. Everything is lovely. One small issue is the room next to the street is not very quite. If you go to Manchester to shopping, this is the place you want to stay at. August 29, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great place for relaxing getaway Went for a quick getaway with the family before school started and the hotel did not disappoint! We had such a relaxing few days. The hotel offered plenty of space to unwind and relax. The food at the hotel was delicious- especially the cider donuts! We bought a dozen for the car ride which they made fresh for us. Great area to hike and fish. August 24, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Exemplary Service, Scenic Locale Recently enjoyed a delightful and relaxing stay at The Equinox. The hotel offers close proximity to local attractions, while the mountain views are quintessential New England! Every staff member we encountered was quite remarkable, from Stephanee at the front desk and Brownie at valet, to Sandra and Maxine, members of the waitstaff team - each made us feel like truly valued guests! The spa facilities are exquisite as well - would definitely recommend requesting Eric for a massage treatment! Overall, great resort to spend some relaxing time away. Hope to come back soon!
