Rated 4 out of 5 by Food I have been visiting The Andaman over the last 10 years. The biggest change has really been that the food was most exceptional when it was GHM. Sadly the food has declined in quality over the years but this year was particularly disappointing at the Tepen Laut and really poor in the Japanese restaurant. The Hotel next door that used to have some affiliation is The Datai. Food there was even better than before showing that they have managed to maintain the quality of their restaurants over the last 10 years! We ate there a couple of times and it was really very nice. Rated 5 out of 5 by We had a fantastic time If you are looking for paradise, we have found it. We have been to many resorts around the world, some maybe more beautiful then this one, but what makes it heaven is the total sum of all ingredients a spoiled traveler is looking for. * a perfectly designed building fitting into the beautiful environment nestled into a 300 million year old rainforest jungle with a lot of wildlife and beautiful butterflies. * a stunning private beach where you can lie in the shade of old trees or stroll along the shore on the white sand. *breakfast is a feast outside on a shady terras with a beautiful view over the swimming pools and beach. It offers all kinds of food, but what for us was surprising is the outstanding bakery which you do not often find in Asia. *There is a exclusive fish restaurant right on the beach, but he main restaurant also offers a variety of very tasteful and friendly priced dishes. One can also eat in a Japanese restaurant. * The friendliness of all the staf, from the moment we arrived until departure was above what you normally experience. *The whole resort was exceptional clean, which was extra surprising because of al the animal inhabitants. * We used our SPG platinum sweet nights for our 8 days stay and were surprisingly upgraded to the best sweet in the house. Thank you Mr. Baer you will surely see us again. November 17, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by A truely spectacular stay at a magnificent property Some time after making the booking we received a personal courtesy welcome e-mail from the concierge. They offer airport pickup/drop-off at a small charge which is absolutely to be recommended. The property is in immaculate condition and the staff are most friendly, helpful and showed frequent genuine interest. During our 5 night stay we have been asked multiple times if all was to satisfaction or if there was anything at all what they could do. Very impressive. We much enjoyed the warm hospitality at the restaurants, high quality for a fair price. The Jala restaurant with fresh fish, as well as the beach bar and the lounge bar offering a stunning afternoon tea where venues we really enjoyed. The breakfast was outstanding. Overall the beautiful setting in the forest and the pristine beach made it so unique and one of a kind stay. We are already looking forward to our next stay somewhere mid 2016 with our friends. This is a must visit for anyone who craves for relaxation and the highest level of hospitality and convenience during their stay. P.S. Close to the hotel there is also a lovely waterfall which is definitely worth visiting after there has been some rain. Don't forget your swimming wear. November 17, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Older property undergoing refresh The spa and seafood restaurant are the highlights of the stay. The rooms and grounds need a refresh. The coral conservation efforts are popular with the kids and proximity to the golf course is very convenient. November 1, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Memorable experience Upon arriving experience was a memorable one when the concierge will notify everyone in the resort that we arrived using a drum. The room was clean and we love it as the toilet comes with bath tub and seperate shower. Thanks to the housekeeping who kept our room clean and tidy. The food for breakfast and dinner in one of the restaurants by the beach was nice. Carol one of the hostess gave us a wonderful tips about the island and the resorts. Pool with slide is fun for the kids. Clean beaches and clear sea water is what we are looking forward ... will definitely come again to Andaman ... October 24, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by The Andaman has amazing natural environment We were impressed by the natural surroundings of the hotel; the amazing rainforest with its wildlife and plant life, the sea with the beautiful coral and sea life. We came here because of that and having Dr. Gerry, the resident marine biologist, tell us and our kids about the sea life and emphasize the need for conservation was just the extra mile. We were impressed by the coral nursery, where you could snorkel and feed the fish daily and the coral clean-up we could participate in. The close proximity of the monkeys, hornbills and flying lemurs to the rooms were wonderful. We took a walk with a local medicine man, who pointed out medicinal plants and its uses. It was superb, even with the leaches! On top of that, the people at Andaman were friendly and personal, sometimes exchanging their stories of where they come from, which is very refreshing. They are very welcoming of children and our kids always felt at home. The Andaman's commitment to the environment is what more establishments should be working towards. October 19, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by In perfect harmony with the enviroment. A family visit, mid-August, two children 10 & 15. In short, a fantastic 3 night visit and we will return for at least 4 or 5 nights. Check in was at 2.45pm, quick and efficient. We went straight to the dining room and the bags were in our room by the time we had finished lunch. Spacious adjoining rooms, facing the rain forest. Rooms clean, well appointed, ‘L’ shaped sofa (perfect for lounging) a ‘Juliet’ balcony with curious visiting macaques monkeys paying a visit. (The monkeys seem to have a preference for Pringles! One of the guests must have left their balcony doors opened!) The bathroom, enough space, bath, walk-in shower and plenty of toiletries to equip the guest bedroom back home! We were on level 2, so a short walk to the restaurant, to the pool and to the beach. Facilities kept us busy for two full days. The coral nursery is a ‘must do’ experience and the Sheraton are doing a first rate job in coral education and with their coral nursery. At low tide there is the opportunity to join the hotel staff with their coral placement program where newly formed coral formations are placed alongside the existing rocks. On our list for next time? We will do the rain forest walk – both in the morning and in the evening. We tried the main restaurant for breakfast and for diner, the Japanese restaurant and the fresh seafood restaurant on the beach. Service and food outstanding. Plus there is a sunset Happy Hour at the beach bar. The kids simply loved the place. Safe for them, plenty of action and exercise and the staff went out of their way to accommodate them. I liked the laid back attitude was barefoot or in flip-flops all day. Our first visit to Langkawi and the Sheraton Andaman has given us no reason to even bother to look elsewhere on our next visit.
