We picked the Liberty because we primarily wanted an upper end hotel in the Beacon Hill area to stay for our anniversary. The hotel was recommended to us by some friends. We found the Liberty to be a very nice hotel and we were impressed by how clean the rooms were kept. There were a few things though that we found unsatisfying. We upgraded and paid for a city view. What we got was an obstructed view of the city that could only be seen above the roof of the hotel's other multi floor wing. When we made the reservation we assumed we’d be looking out the window and seeing a full city view. This wasn't the case. I think it was a little misleading. The fan in the bathroom didn't seem to work and most importantly we were awakened at 5:30 in the morning by the fire alarm. We went down to the lobby only to find out that we could go back upstairs. We were told by the staff that something in the kitchen had set the alarm off. So much for sleeping in on Saturday morning. I emailed the hotel’s GM and to date haven’t received a response. I realize things can happen but this is all stuff one would expect to find at a lower end chain hotel. We were expecting a little more.

I stay at the Liberty whenever I'm in Boston and have never been disappointed. The staff is very engaging and accommodating.

This hotel is worth staying at simply for the architecture and ambience. It is conveniently located right by the red line and is walking distance to the Esplanade. In the past, I have experienced superior customer service. I was not as impressed with the hotel side of operations during my last stay because of numerous issues that had to be resolved during my stay. (Some of which were never resolved.)
We spent a significant amount of time at the bars and restaurants in the hotel. Schuyler and Justin are superb bartenders and were genuinely nice to us during our stay. They created cocktails to suit our tastes and remembered our names from the first day. It was an absolute pleasure to be served by them and their excellent customer service is likely why I overlooked a majority of the issues we had on the hotel side of the house.
This gorgeous property is absolutely worth visiting. I believe there must have been a change in management recently as I have stayed at this property multiple times over the years and this is the first time they disappointed me.
If you stay at this property, make sure to have drinks at the lobby bar and get reservations at Scampo. DELICIOUS!

I've been staying at the Liberty for a couple years and I have to admit the standard of service keeps getting worse and worse. Two cases in point. First, the internet was extremely spotty during not only my most recent stay but also the last time I had stayed there. I tried to use both the complementary service as well as the paid service and both were very slow on multiple devices that I used. I had called Services and they mentioned that they were switching to a new wi-fi network and to "keep trying". Really? You need to do more than that.
Second, i realize it is a perk but one of the nice things about the Luxury Collection is the complementary shoe shine. On my last stay there, I had called Services the night before and asked to please pick up my shoes. They indicated that they would pick it right up. However, in the morning, the shoes were there, still dirty. Not a huge issue, just surprised.
Both of these things are minor issues but they seem to be a sign that the Liberty is slipping somewhat. There is a premium to stay there and for me these types of services are worth the premium. If not, there are many other Starwood properties in Boston to choose from.

The hotel is a great property that is pushing a luxury hotel that is a club. I think the idea could work, but the Libery's execution is flawed. Having a club at the entrance of the hotel is a poor idea. While it is entertaining to walk into, it creates a mass of logistical and potentially legal problems. Having cars pull up to where the club entrance is creates an unsafe environment. Walking into the hotel lobby through two "clubs" is interesting, but as someone checking into the hotel and expecting to have a more relaxed atmosphere, the concept fails miserably. If the entrance was seperated from the "club" entrance perhaps the concept would work better.
In addition to this design flaw, the staff are rather pretentious and generally unhelpful. The restaurant service was slow, the Valet brought up the wrong car and also argued with me when I arrived. The front desk was reasonable.
I was very surprised at the lack of service and attention to detail at the hotel and think that by including the "clubs", the hotel makes it very difficult to enjoy the experience.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and would suggest that there are plenty of better options in Boston to stay at.
