Local Area

Fondly known as the “Lake City”—Udaipur is located in the western coast of the Indian state of Rajasthan—filled with majestic palaces, forts, temples and four lakes. The Sheraton Udaipur Palace Resort & Spa sits on the edge of the banks of Fateh Sagar Lake, in Ambamata. Our hotel is just 3 kilometres west of the city centre and 28 kilometres northwest from Udaipur Airport/ Maharana Pratap Airport (UDR).

There is so much for you to do and see here. Udaipur has a rich history and culture, and is famous for its exquisite Rajput palaces. Take a rickshaw into town and visit Lake Pichola where you’ll find—Udaipur’s top attraction—City Palace. Made entirely out of marble and granite, with towers, gates, domes, arches, courtyards, pavilions and gardens, it is an intriguing architectural mix of Medieval, European and Chinese design. Take a short boat ride over the lake to Jag Niwas Island to see the stunning Udaipur Lake Palace. Built in 1746 out of white marble by Maharana Jagat Singh II, with the Aravalli Hills as a backdrop, it is a veritable marvel. Or, visit Jag Mandir Palace, made of yellow sandstone, the three-storey palace dates back to the 1800’s. The highlight there is its life size elephants, made from marble.

For entertainment, you simply must attend a Rajasthani folk dance performance. These elaborate musical shows are a not-to-be-missed attraction. The shopping here is fantastic, too. Even if you’re not a big shopper, the markets found here are really worthy of a visit. The most colourful ones are: Hathi Pol, Bada Bazaar, Chetak Circle, Bada Bazaar and Palace Road. There, you will find everything from silk, batiks and handicrafts to pottery, jewellery, wooden toys, puppets, antiques, paintings and much more. Udaipur is also especially known for its miniature paintings, inspired by the Rajputs and Mughals.

For a warm and memorable stay—the Sheraton Udaipur Palace Resort & Spa.
