Le Méridien Emei Mountain Resort
Forming part of Leshan and meaning “Emei Mountain,” Emeishan is situated in the southern portion of China’s Sichuan Province. Le Méridien Emei Mountain Resort is located at the entrance of the Mount Emei Scenic Area and is surrounded by spectacular verdant mountains. Our resort is conveniently accessible, just 7 kilometres from Emeishan Train Station, and Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport (CTU) is approximately an hour’s drive away. Another airport currently under construction in nearby Leshan is expected to open in a few years.
Emei Mountain, one of the Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains of China and a designated UNESCO World Heritage site, is a towering wonder of mystery waiting to be explored. Filled with diverse vegetation and 1,000-year-old trees, China’s first Buddhist temple was built here during the 1st century. Over the centuries, many other cultural treasures were added here, including the astounding Giant Buddha of Leshan. Carved out of a hillside during the 8th century and standing at a towering 71 metres, it is the world’s largest Buddha. Explore nearby Leshan and visit the Museum of Cliff Graves. Formerly the site of ancient Chinese graves, the museum contains more than 2,000 artefacts. In addition to its rich heritage, Emei is also famous for its martial arts.
For a completely different taste of nature, visit the pandas at Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. Located on the outskirts of Chengdu and a popular attraction, it also has a dedicated panda museum. Explore ancient civilisations at the Jinsha Site Museum in Chengdu, and marvel at gold, jade, pottery, and other relics before heading to Jinli Alley, one of Sichuan’s oldest shopping streets. Take an elevating stroll and browse the intriguing shops selling original handicrafts—from ceramics to silk tapestry to lacquerware and Shu embroidery. For a cultivated dose of ancient art, attend a traditional and colourful Sichuan Opera performance or discover the area’s booming art scene. Epicureans can savour spicy Sichuan cuisine and sample the famed local Minjiang River fish, tofu, baijiu (Chinese liquor), and Emei tea.
