Le Méridien Hsinchu
Local Area

Nicknamed the “Windy City” due to its breezy climate, Zhubei is a unique centuries-old city that showcases an inspiring blend of Western influences and local Hakka culture. Situated in Hsinchu County’s Xinpu Township, Le Méridien Hsinchu is an ideal gateway for discovering the oldest city in northern Taiwan. The Hsinchu Science Park is a 20-minute drive away. Hsinchu (Zhubei) HSR Station, which connects to Taipei via a high-speed train in 36 minutes, is just 7 kilometres away, and Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) can be reached by car in 30 minutes.

The beauty of this picturesque region is best appreciated with an invigorating trek to 18 Peaks Mountain—a forest park featuring wetlands, floral trails, beaches, and a harbour. Rent a bicycle or pedicab, and bring along a pair of binoculars for bird watching. Take a rejuvenating stroll along one of the area’s golden, sandy beaches. The Coastline Scenic Area is a particularly spectacular choice. More nature can be found at the Hsinchu Municipal Zoo, Taiwan’s oldest, while an authentic taste of local culture awaits at Neiwan Village. Situated approximately 40 minutes by car from the city centre, this small mountain village is home to a market and outdoor restaurants that serve a delightful array of flavourful delicacies.

Back in the city, East Gate, a distinctive arched entry, is the city’s most famous landmark, but Hsinchu is also renowned for its glass art, which is on display at the exquisite Hsinchu Municipal Glass Art Museum. Discover one of the inspiring year-round glass workshops or plan your stay around the engaging annual International Glass Art Festival.

Experience spiritual enrichment at the historic City God (Chenghuang) Temple. Built in 1748, this intricate woodcraft temple has been the local religious and cultural centre for centuries. Additionally, just outside this Taoist centre, food stalls offer unique dishes including traditional rice noodles called mifen, meatballs served in a broth, and stuffed meatballs.
