The Andaman, a Luxury Collection Resort, Langkawi
Nature Walks & Tours
The Andaman Resort is surrounded by one of the world’s oldest rainforests, which is teeming with a magnificent array of flora and fauna. Enter this world with our naturalist or one of his trained assistants on a morning or evening Nature Walk to learn the secrets of the rainforest. All walks are complimentary and depart from the main lobby. The morning walk begins at 8am, and the evening walk begins at 7pm. Each adventure is approximately 1½ hours and guests are invited to dress comfortably in strong sandals or sport shoes.
We are also pleased to provide Nature Tours for our guests—each designed to highlight the natural wonders of Langkawi. Choose from bird watching, kayaking and swimming, jungle trekking, mangrove forest, local culture, and impressive vistas from Gunung Mat Cincang.
UNESCO Geopark Cruise
The Kilim Karst Mangroves was the first site in Southeast Asia to be named a UNESCO Geopark. An insular mangrove forest coexists with magnificent, fossil-rich limestone hills dating back more than 400 million years. This once-arcane coral is now home to a unique group of plants, some of which cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Tunnel through caves and spot eagles, kites, kingfishers, mudskippers, fiddler crabs, monitor lizards, and a variety of other fauna that thrive beneath and between the meandering towers of limestone.
Mangrove Cruise & Swimming
The Mangroves are home to a unique group of plants that have adapted to live in an environment of constant and dynamic change dictated by the rise and fall of the tides. Observe white-bellied sea eagles, Brahminy Kites, kingfishers, and more before joining a local family for a delightful home-cooked lunch. Then head to a nearby jungle trail for a short 450-meter trek that leads to a quiet jungle pool for a refreshing swim. This activity is chargeable.
Kayaking & Swimming Adventure
A short drive to Kubang Badak River leads to guests donning lifejackets and getting directly into a kayak. Row with the tide along tranquil mangrove forests and enjoy the birdlife and wildlife. Afterward, join a local family for a home-cooked lunch followed by a refreshing swim. This activity is chargeable.
For keen hikers, several jungle trails around the hotel vary in difficulty and cater to different levels of fitness. Trails can be customized to meet particular needs. Your guide will highlight the many medicinal plants found here and used in traditional Malay medicine. This tour is led by a local medicine man. This activity is chargeable.
For families with small children, we offer a short and easy 450-meter trail that leads to a nearby jungle stream, where they can swim and enjoy a welcome respite in the most natural of settings. This activity is chargeable.
Escorted Wildlife Photography Tours
For those who are passionate about photography, our guide will drive you to several spots around the island. Using our expert local knowledge, we can advise you where and when to capture wildlife and scenic views with your lens. We recommend that this tour be taken either early morning or late afternoon. This activity is chargeable.
Langkawi has a rich diversity of ecosystems and habitat types, including lowland broadleaf rainforest, mangrove forest, reed beds, rice paddies, orchards, scrublands, and mudflats. This corresponds to a rich diversity in birdlife on the island. More than 220 species of birds have been recorded on the island, with approximately 30 percent being migratory. All tours start early for the best opportunities to observe them and to avoid the heat of the tropical sun. We adhere to the Birdlife International Guidelines for Best Practices on Bird Tourism for this tour. This activity is chargeable.
