The distinguishing Cycladic architecture of Santa Marina Resort is exclusive to Greece and especially characteristic of Mykonos. It was developed around 5,000 years ago due to the islands’ limited supply of construction materials and as a means of resisting the region’s strong winds. Distinguished by whitewashed walls and low storied buildings, Cycladic structures harmonize with the rolling landscape and stunningly accentuate the incandescent azure sea.
It is understandable, then, that when the future owner of Santa Marina Resort noticed an increase in visitors to Mykonos and decided to build a number of luxury bungalows, he chose this charming traditional style. Constructed in 1986, these ten bungalows became the very first luxury resort on the island. Over the next 20 years, the resort has expanded to include 96 rooms, suites, and villas with private pools.
Since its inauguration, the resort has become the preferred Mykonos destination of many prestigious international personalities—from Richard Branson, Oliver Stone, Harrison Ford, and Denzel Washington to Roman Polanski and football star Ronaldo—who have all come to enjoy Santa Marina Resort’s singular breathtaking seascapes, enchanting architecture, and first-class amenities.
