Since its introduction in 1960 as an elite seaside hotel featuring private bungalows and the Club Restaurant, Astir Palace has played an important role in defining quality and excellence in Greek tourism.
Five years later, architect Manolis Vourekas completed the Arion Resort & Spa, fusing innovation with exclusivity and paving the way for the extended Astir Palace Resort complex. In the ensuing decades, the resort built a reputation based on five-star hospitality and superior service, defining it as the reference point of the city’s social, political, and economic life as well as a favorite venue of international VIPs. These distinguished individuals include Nelson Mandela, Frank Sinatra, Jane Fonda, Jackie Onassis, Konstantinos Karamanlis, Tony Blair, and more.
In 2004, under the expert eye of architect P. Masourides Company and interior design firm Hirsch Bedner Associates, the resort underwent extensive renovations, maintaining its classical style while adding contemporary touches. Following its reopening in 2006, it became a member of the Starwood Luxury Collection, reaffirming its integral presence in the prestigious Astir Palace complex. Today the complex comprises the Arion Resort & Spa and The Westin Athens Astir Palace Beach Resort, and it will eventually include a W Hotel.
