The Araucanía Region’s first luxury hotel, Villarrica Park Lake opened its doors in November 2002. Built with outstanding attention to local traditions and ecology, the hotel features captivating architectural and interior design from Germany, incorporating native materials, including wood, rock, and stone. The gardens are similarly based on indigenous concepts and house local trees and plants ranging from raulíes, myrtle, and oak to southern beech, hydrangeas, and rhododendrons. This rare combination of worldly and iconic, modern and native, has drawn prominent guests, including Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands and Leonardo DiCaprio in 2003, and the APEC delegations from Brunei, Indonesia, Japan, and the USA in 2004. In 2010, the hotel became a member of the Luxury Collection by Starwood Hotels and Resorts.
